Does this mean that it feels like you are peeing this entire duration? Does it hurt when you bleed (I don't mean the cramps, I mean does the actual bleeding process hurt, like you've been cut or some other sensation similar that would normally produce bleeding?) Can you feel something in your body before the period begins? How long does it normally last for you, and how much does it interfere with your day-to-day life during?

I'm going to take you through the whole process for myself. Every woman is a little different.
Towards the end of the month I get hungry...like really hungry. I've always thought that it was my body's way of preparing itself for a week of bleeding without dying.
Then I get one crazy insecure day. I've generally learned over time when that day is coming and plan to sequester myself in my room with either a romantic trashy book or a series of girly movies. Crying is almost inevitable.
The next day the bleeding starts. It is a lot like a very sporadic slow drip from a faucet...the tap works the drip out every few minutes, but you can imagine if the tap were turned on its side ...the water would pool up and then when you right it a bunch of water would come out.
Periods are similar; if I lie down for a while or first thing in the morning the flow is substantially heavier than when I'm out and about and the bleeding is sporadic and slight.
This drip builds in speed for about 3-4 days and then begins to subside, my flow is accordingly heavier/lighter. On the worst days I generally have to get up and run to the bathroom immediately and even then occasionally leaks happen. That is a bloody mess.
Cramps are the product of non-blood uterine shedding. Which is what a females body is doing during menstruation. We build the lining each month for the fertilized egg to implant in to and if the egg is not fertilized our body admits its defeat gets rid of the old and starts over again for the next one. Some of that is in the form of clots or chunks and our small cervical opening makes them painful to pass. It can be excruciating. Otherwise the bleeding does not hurt.
After the bleeding has stopped I am generally exhausted. For the first week of my cycle
after my period it is not uncommon for my sleep needs to increase by a few hours per day and I will often even forget to eat for a day or two at a time.
Without being on hormone-based birth control my period is generally 7-10 days and the heaviest days (usually days 3-4) are nearly impossible to function on ...even with hourly bathroom trips.
Edit: ^^This is not typical. I think the average is something like 3-5 days and it doesn't interfere substantially with day-to-day activities
