1) Your life has been difficult in terms of economic backround, personal tragedies, other, or a combination (of course measured by western standards again)?

Yes, three times off the top of my head.

1. When I was about 15, I was teasing my best friend's little brother, (who was for all intents and purposes MY little brother.) he gave me a well deserved punch in the face. It was a decent punch, I re-dubbed him 'champ' and made a point of showing him the blood in my mouth where my cheek cut on my teeth and high-fived him. Later, I called and invited the girl over, and he was too shy to talk to her.

2. I'm like 10 years older than the ave. 4lifer...tough love was the breast milk of our generation and there are lots of incidences, where my parents deemed a smack/hit as the most effective parenting strategy. A few teenage stand offs seem like they were too much in memory..but it is hard to judge from here what was acceptable then. I ran away once and moved out for good when I was 17.

3. My ex-husband never hit me, but he did throw things at me twice that were heavy enough to affect as much damage and hit the wall beside me a couple times.
