my friend had a penis injury about 7 years ago, he wouldn't go into detail but it was severe enough to the point that he was talking with me about having a sex change. i told him that whatever happens to his dick he is still a man. what if i had been some open-minded idiot and told him something less supportive and more confusing like you can be a woman if you want to?? i think that society's acceptance of transgender individuals actually does more harm than good. like reassigning gender for children (who are easily confused) is absurd to me since %80 will lose the feelings and grow out of that over time. giving those children hormones and surgery is potentially very dangerous and does more harm than good.

what about a person who thinks he is a cat? what about an anorexic person thinking they are fat? what about a person who thinks he is dead(cotard delusion)?? should we all conform to their mental illness and agree with them???

lets look at bruce/caitlyn jenner. ive paid close attention to his transition and the confused things he would say in interviews. he said when he was younger he wanted to grow his hair long and wear "pretty" clothing but that he couldn't because he was a man. well those things have nothing to do with being a woman and everything to do with social norms. my best guess is that he is a repressed homosexual whos dad said referred to homosexuals with derogatory words and his brain did some mental gymnastics "well i like men but im not a queer so i must have been supposed to be born female"

a person growing up on a deserted desert island by themselves certainly would not feel like he was born the wrong gender. just like a woman does not feel the need to have breast enlargement without pressure from society and some feeling of less than imposed upon her by a comment or attitudes from society. or a man might want to have his legs broken and put back together so that he can be a few inches taller(thats a real thing). all of these things are inherently risky and cause more harm than good.

in iran its illegal to be gay and punishable by death, however being trangendered is allowed so many gay men are forced to have sex change operations.

before anyone calls me a cis white male or a bigot who doesnt know what im talking about read the article from former psychiatrist in chief for Johns Hopkins University and watch the video.

80% of children who have transgendered feelings grow out of them yet we, as a society, are mutilating childrens genitals to conform to these passing feelings. does that sound right to you??

people just need to think critically about issues. the former head psychiatrist of johns hopkins university says that transgenderism is a mental illness and he has been studying transgenderism for over forty years.

Correct. Many people agree, but cant engage in discussion because of the armies of shamers that smother any attempt at logical conversation on the subject....similar to what is done with the islam thing

Some would argue, this shamer phemomina is born of, and perpetuated by, the psychopothy of the feminist and SJW movements. Nevertheless, some would also argue it is a tragic turn of events wrt overall social structure and opinion moving forward.

You need to think just a tad moar crytically on this...

Who is doing the pushing and accepting?

The answer to this "issue" is super deeper than society is letting be explored

As soon as the millennials start birthing the next generation of kumbaya snowflakes, we're done...toast

Check out Stephan Molyneux on feminism and the current attack on men, the single mother phenomina etc etc.... you will be attacked vigorously but be a better, more rounded individual intellectually for it.

I feel as though your points are not well thought out and somewhat offensive.

Who are you to judge somebody and tell them what gender they are? Do you know how this person feels? Do you know what this person is thinking? No. You do not.

This is the typical conservative argument "What if they think they are a cat?" "What if they think they are younger?" Again, you don't know what this person if feeling, and you are just quoting Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh

This is problematic and offensive. You do not use incorrect gender pronouns and the fact you know you are using the incorrect pronouns is really offensive. And Im not sure why you are talking about this person's sexuality... Sexuality is different than gender.

Again, using examples of rare almost impossible scenarios, yet you know nothing about the people. You do not know what this person is feeling emotional. I guess next you are going to talk about how it's illegal for being a homosexual in a middle eastern country?

LOL feelings ITT

One question..

Patient X has feelings of deep sadness and empty and self hate etc etc, subsequently leading to suicidal feelings...he/ she feels that he/she needs to end the hurt by killing him/herself

...should the universal opinion of mental health professionals wrt this patient be dissmissed?

Should the universally proven opinion that those with the afformentioned feelings need immediate professional mental help be dissmissed as illogical and prejudice in someway?

i think OP is misguided. he's correct that, if his friend was born male that every cell in his body contains X and Y chromosomes, regardless of what happens to his penis if he got it blown off in iraq or fell on his boner it doesn't matter, and no amount of hormones and surgery is gonna change his dna. but gender is a social construct and isn't defined by one's biological sex. if you feel someone is wacky for wanting to surgically reshape their genitals, you're free to feel that way. idk how much it affects you tho.

like, personally i would never get a face tattoo, and i feel that people who do choose to get face tattoos will regret it as a poor decision, but i'm not going to do anything to stop mike tyson from getting a huge freaky face tattoo, because it doesn't affect me at all. like, if we as a society want to start meddling with what people do to their bodies, i'd start by putting a 200lb weight limit for fast food orders. obesity is a legit public health epidemic and we are doing like 100,000x as many heart surgeries as we are sex changes, so the priority for society to start coming down on transgender people is low, in my mind

i know my friend a lot better than you and he is well adjusted and from what he tells me his penis has healed more than he thought it could and he's thankful for my support. if he would have gone ahead with a sex change i would still be his friend just as im still friends with my paranoid schizophrenic friend. how much do you know about the human mind?? how are you so concrete in your opinions when there is no scientific evidence to support your claim that a man can be born into a womans body or vice versa??

so do you think my friend is really a woman or was he a confused person who had a traumatic penis injury and was confused about what that meant for his future??

you dont know everything buddy.

i dont watch bill oreilly or rush limbaugh and "feeling" a certain way does not mean they are not mentally ill. and again it doesnt answer the question. are those people not mentally ill?? are all transgendered people born that way or are some mentally ill? to say that 0% of transgendered are not mentally deranged for thinking so its absolutely wrong even if you disagree with me and think its less than 100% to say its zero is just fallacious. people's delusions range from all sorts buddy.

actually i was using the correct pronoun and you are collaborating with his mental illness and reinforcing the mental illness of others rather than allow them the chance to recognize reality and get help.

when my schizo friend talks about delusions of grandeur saying he is going to help lil wayne get elected as the president of the usa should i go along with that?? i try to use the socratic method to help him recognize reality. how many interactions have you ever actually had with a mentally ill person??

so feelings trump science?? if you feel like the opposite sex or gender does that make it so? no.

im not trying to form a case against LGBT rights and identities. like you said sexuality and gender are two different things. i have no problem with anyone elses sexuality and i have compassion for the mentally ill.

[how come you dissected my post but left out the part about 70-80% of children who have transgendered feelings will eventually grow out of them?? yet we are mutilating these confused children and sick children instead of treating them. i think thats horrific. what are you thoughts about that? what about the fact that a transgendered person is more likely to commit suicide AFTER having reassignment surgery??

yeah i agree with peoples health and diet. what if your close friend and not mike tyson wanted to get a face tattoo or donut forehead? would you say nothing to them??

im not telling bruce/caitlyn jenner not to cut his dick off or wear a dress btw i could care less, i just want society to recognize the truth for what it is and not conform to other peoples mental illness thereby preventing other people from being able to recognize they are sick and get the proper treatment they need (counseling). im not mad at anyone who thinks they are the opposite sex.

also differentiating between sex and gender is absurd and backwards. sex is biological and gender roles are defined by society, this is part of the problem of transgenderism. society tells us that little boys have to play with trucks in the mud and little girls have to play with dolls and have tea parties. this is all wrong. if a boy wants to play with dolls or a girl with trucks there is nothing wrong with that. society is creating this problem of transgenderism by assigning roles for the different sexes to play. there is nothing wrong with a man being a nurse and having long hair or a woman firefighter with short hair and we need to accept these things as a society. masculinity and femininity are not an either or but rather a sliding scale and we need to reject these societal roles and allow people to be whoever they want in life. people shouldn't need to feel out of place in their own sex just because they dont conform to what society tells them they "should" be.

for the record i have been called ma'am recently when someone saw me from behind lol. my hair is getting longer =P. and as a kid i was called miss once at disneyland when some dude said "ladies first" as i was going to the water fountain when i was 6 and i said "im a boy" and he said "well i can tell with that deep voice" i have had a deep voice ever since i was a baby apparently.

also sexual reassignment is not the only form of genital mutilation we are performing on our children. circumcision and the female equivalent (cutting off the clitoris) are a form of behavior modification that we are still practicing in todays day and age.

It's just a wild thought that if your dick breaks you might as well become a woman. It makes me think there's more going on than just a broken dick. I am cis gender and if I broke my dick the only surgery I would be contemplating would be surgery to repair my dick

exactly. but what circumstances would it not be a wild thought?? people saying "ive known [anything] my whole life" are misguided since obviously as babies we come into this world with no knowledge, a blank canvas if you will. even sexuality differs among identical twins (though they are more likely to have the same sexual preference which points to a genetic predisposition one way or the other).

you dont actually know how you would react but yeah i feel the same way as you. he told me the clinical name for it and ive forgotten it now, but when i looked it up it was like his dick was decaying or something. he was having rough sex with a girl and he did something she didn't like so she did something to his dick, he would not go into detail on that matter.
