I nominate pelican as the most motivational poster because he often says 'post more.'

I had no idea what you are talking about. Here are some facts.

The suggestion was the United States was colonizing Iwo Jima (or anywhere else). This is untrue.

The United States WAS a colony of Great Britan, and Britain would have crushed the US and put her back in heel during the War of 1812 if not for Napoleon getting to power again and during the hundred days pressuring GB to recall all her troops from the New World. In fact several units went directly from the butt-whippin' they got at the Battle of New Orleans (which took place after the War was technically over)....did not pass go...did not collect $200 and went DIRECTLY to the Battle of Waterloo. Fun for them huh? If not for the French, we would have never gotten our independance in the 1770's, and we never would have kept it in the 1810's. Napoleon gave GB plenty to think about in Europe for them to maintain the colony although as many as one third of the Americans were loyal to GB.

The US is a representative republic.

We were levied heavy taxes without having MP's in Parlaiment. Some people were pissed and dumped tea in Boston harbor (what would be hundreds of millions if not billions of pounds worth in modern terms actually).

I would have tracked what you were saying better, but there was really no logical way to get there in one step from those Marines doing the photo op on Iwo Jima to the Boston Tea Party. imo

You still made about as much sense as I did.. but I have no agenda (what's yours?). Really.. what was your point? Break it down for me! Were you just trying to say that the poster was wrong?

I have no agenda. The United States is guilty of cultural colonialism of a fashion. There is almost no corner of the world that is completely free of the influence to one degree or another. However, we have never been a Colonial power in a military sense. We certainly could have conquered other countries and molded them after ourselves, but we have not done so.

I am saying that if the suggestion was that the United States was colonizing Iwo Jima...that is just plain wrong.

Jokes are either rooted in comic exaggeration or be a left turn. Neither work in this case.
An exaggeration is like saying eventually every man in the United States will have been married to J-lo at one time or another. Exaggeration based on something.
Left turn is like how I was able to quit smoking using that Asian method with the needles.....you know what I mean.......Heroin. Left turn takes you away from accupuncture.

We did not colonize a little so there is no exaggeration. We have bases all over the world...but there are not there to colonize, there are there to provide geo-political stability.
There is no left-turn...there is no logical place that joke was taking and then didn't deliver.
It is just BS USA bashing. Nobody has to appreciate that America spends trillions and the lives of no tiny number of our soldiers to do it, but we thanklessly assume the role of policeman to the world (again at our own expense mind) for largely altruistic reasons.
Granted we over-consume and are increadibly annoying with our flag waving arrogance. But, we do a whole lot for not enough thanks in my view.

Simply put...we are NO COLONIAL EMPIRE. That is about it. : )

I hope that clears it up.

OMFG!!! Are you saying that one of the motivational posters ITT contained information that was not 100% factual??? This is the most shocking revelation I have ever witnessed! Can you trust nothing in this world anymore?! My world is suddenly turned upside down and I'm not sure I can even go on living after this! How the hell is this atrociousness allowed to exist on the 2+2 forums??!

I am shocked at the horrific lies and terrible deception that you have uncovered! Keep up the fantastic work!
