My parents are being near terrorised by some guy/girl who seems to be damaging their property at a recurring rate (5 seperate events now) and they are really spooked. obviously law enforcement is helpless/clueless how to go about it, since they cant really do anything.

I however feel like it would be a grand adventure to go and catch the perp.
I dont have any clue how to do that however, and i figured asking it here, maybe someone would have some kind of experience or pointers to give.

Any help is appreciated and will update ^^

Any suspects? Did cars of other people get damaged too? Five times the car of your parents seems like somebody isn't exactly a fan of them for whatever reason. If they / you think back was there any dispute with persons some days / few weeks before the car was damaged the first time?

There is one suspect but it seems very unlikely its him, at least to me.
Because if it does turn out to be that guy he would have to be a pathological liar and borderline sociopath in which case it would surprise me that he was able to live in the community they live in for all that time without anything bigger happening or it being noticed by someone.

No other peoples car at least in the near proximity where damaged while my parents drive a 20K car and both their neighbours drive a 50-100K pricetag car.

No real dispute the only thing we can think of with the most recent occurence is that my father got invited to a cycling trip with the person who we somewhat suspect and after my father said no the day after the car got damaged.

There was also an incident where he was asked to sell a bycicle to the same person and also said no and in the 2-3 day period after that the car was also damaged.

I cant recall the other events since im not here often.

However while this definitely does seem to point into his direction, He is the type of person who appears to be very happy go lucky almost "hippie-like" and really takes joy in the simpler things of life, like doing sports spending time with his family.
I have never seen this person upset or doing anything else but smiling.

Perhaps im just very naive or bad at judging character, but it would strike me as odd if it did turn out to be him.

I also try not to judge others, so im not quite ready to condemn him or go to the police and say i suspect it is that guy.

But they are (as medium old people they are) really stressed by this, and especially given living in a country with a low crime rate and an area with nearly the lowest in the country this is not something that happens often for them.

When im not at my parents house I live in "the (possibly) biggest university city over here" so im not nearly as upset about it all as they are.
But naturally i really feel for them.

Yes, but on the other hand the repair costs of the damage also add up. I'd guess if you can get the vandalist on video and identify the person, he is somewhat likely to admit what he has done in the past at the police station, in which case he will have to pay all repair costs.

Can you also please confirm there are TWO vehicles on this property in seperate locations and that we have to secure both. One is a very funny shape on the drawing so I was a little confused.

We are going to be designing and building something awesome, depending what resources your parents have around the house it should cost between $20-$50. Prevention is key here, not a webcam. Im thinking a system that is activated probably by trip wires, connected to flood lights, a decent siren, and we can light some fireworks if you have any lying around. But I think your parents might not be so appreciative of that, especially considering its just as likely to be set off by the pet dog as it is any intruders.

Actually, I take back what I say about a webcam, I want to record this.

Update your drawing and Ill write up a plan and shopping list for you. I basically spent my entire teenage years playing with security systems, electronics and explosives. This is gonna be fun

Or you could just be boring and go down to the local hardware shop and pick up a $10 motion detecting outdoor light....
