Why do some people love to telephone? Why do some people love to telephone?

The bilateral illusion of unilateral attention are almost infantilely gratifying from an emotional standpoint: you get to believe you are receiving somebody's complete attention without having to return it. Regarded with the objectivity of hindsight, the illusion appears irrational, almost literally fantastic: it’s like being able to both lie and to trust other people at the same time.

Seeing a girl/woman take off her clothes in front of you while describing what she is going to do to you

is better than

listening to a girl/woman tell you she is undressing and what she would do to you if you were with her instead of on the phone

is better than

reading some text messages from what you hope is a girl/woman who is in your weight class and attractiveness range about what she wishes she was wearing so she could tell you she was taking it off and what she would do to you if she didn't have curfew tonight and school in the morning.

is better than

Chris Janson (catch a predator dude) showing up when you get the text telling you it is safe to come over and bring some Zimas.

Looking at your phone whilst with a group of friends is the height of social interaction.

Drives me nuts, it's like people have forgotten to talk and are socially inept unless "dey r tlkn lyk dis"

When I moved out with 18, I didnt have internet at my flat until I was 23. I just didn't need it. Now I have Intenet since close to 4 years and I'm a massive addict. I somehow feel like I am the last generation of those, whose social interaction was 100% non-digital until they were grown up. It's a bit scary, but so is the change in my own life in the last 4 years.
At least I win min-wage in tha online-pokerz now....

I hate text-speak the most. I always make sure that I use correct spelling and punctuation in my text messages.

Old before my time.

"Everyone is extremely conscious of manipulating how they come off in the media; they want to structure what they say so that the reader or audience will interpret it in the way that is most favorable to them. What's interesting to me is that this isn't all that new. This was the project of the Sophists in Athens, and this is what Socrates and Plato thought was so completely evil. The Sophists had this idea: Forget this idea of what's true or not—what you want to do is rhetoric; you want to be able to persuade the audience and have the audience think you're smart and cool. And Socrates and Plato, basically their whole idea is, "Bull****. There is such a thing as truth, and it's not all just how to say what you say so that you get a good job or get laid, or whatever it is people think they want.”

Thinking about stuff like this all the time eventually led to David Foster Wallace killing himself.

Just sayin'.

I'm sure it's a fine thread.
