Dirtbag88 opens a checking account, has questions. - BBV4Life -- Two Plus Two Poker Forums

So I just hit 20k in my savings acct and i've decided that although paying everything in cash is pretty baller, I need a debit card for convenience. Any advice on how not to get ****ed when opening up a checking account? Are there any hidden charges or fees I should watch out for?

Yea, make sure you get free checking. A lot of places charge a ~$5 "maintenance fee" on checking accounts (that they usually neglect to mention)

my checking is free If I have direct deposit.

not really, checks are pretty easy. Just make sure you track wat you spend so you don't overdraw it.

most banks do free checking and open a savings account while your there, I would also recommend to get over draft protection too

Don't let the banks trick you into getting a 4 digit pin number. Demand a 5 digit pin number or tell them you will walk.

Can't you just get a debit card for your savings account? Every debit card I've ever had lets you choose which account to take money out of :X

set it all up today... basically you get a savings acct and a checking acct and just move $$ over to the checking acct as you want. Relatively easy and i get a higher interest rate and it's completely free.
