1. Women in male dominated fields probably have to be a little more cut-throat to get ahead.
2. Employees under women are definitely more inclined to see something wrong with women being authoritative. The whole "man is strong leader/woman is bossy or bitchy" thing.
3. I bet the undermining goes both ways.
For 2. I've seen several instances where male reports aren't having the same issues only female reports. It's really only the women that are having problems.
Ok. This one clown I worked for.. the day I hired on, there were 4 other employees. Fast-forward literally one month from my hire-date, there was one remaining with the company. That's how much turnover there was. People couldn't stand him. This boss was independently wealthy, so this plumbing concern of his was essentially just something to occupy his time. Honest to God, he didn't care if he made money, so my experience and performance weren't anything he valued lol. He would find fault with everything. One morning he started into me, I told him to **** off, he said, "gimme the company van keys." I was gonna get my personal possessions outta the van and into my personal vehicle, and he got into my personal space and I saw red and split his head open with the keys he was after.. got arrested, bailed outta jail by my Mom... went to court a few weeks later.
Day in the life.

Reason: lol boff
Lol, that reminded me of when I sent a boss to the hospital.
I was about 17 and working in fast food. We had a manager that would get right in our faces(like within 2") and yell at us. He did it to me one day and I had a bottle of some type of spray cleaner in my hand. Right when he got in my face , I instinctively sprayed him in the eyes with the cleaner and told him to get out of my face. He had to go to the hospital to get his eyes flushed out.
About 15 years ago I started a new job as an accountant, working for the CFO. First day on the job, working on the first task, I have a question. Our offices are adjoining with a glass door. I go in to ask him the question and his answer is "I don't know and I don't give a ****."
Okay, I'll figure it out.
Couple of days later, still first week, I once again venture into his office through the open glass door. I don't remember what I was going in there to see him about.
I stopped like a deer in the headlights once I walked in. He was topless, he had a VERY hairy chest, and was rubbing something onto his nipples, that looked like roll-on deodorant.
wtf!
I apologized for walking in and stated "But the door was open" as I backed away. He quickly pulled a top on and told me he was going for a run and was protecting his nipples.
Okay buddy, whatever!
Same boss...I would usually bring a muffin to work and nibble/pick from it while working in the morning. One morning, I went to the rest room and when I came back a colleague said to me "You know when you leave the office, Peter comes out and eats some of your muffin." Colleague was normal, boss was bizarre so I tend to believe colleague. I did not leave my food unattended after that.
