Kinda funny. I took at job in DC, and my commute is just about 1:45. Not sure the nature of your job but if you can work early, like 7-3 it helps alot with the commute time. Where's your house? I don't think i'd keep my job if i had to deal w/ Virginia traffic(I live in southern MD)

If you take the commuter bus you can get a solid hour of sleep, read, watch TV or w/e, and it's far from lost time like driving is. I'm aware you turned the job down, but if you get another opportunity for something in DC, you might consider that.

cliffs: Commuter bus to DC is great. I enjoy it.

Wow, hope you get your stuff sorted. Sounds like real life jobs suck, I should try to become good at this poker thing.

Today I was specifically told that I could not take my team out for a decent lunch as an End of the Year "Thank You" because we need to cut back on expenses and items deemed "Not necessary for business performance" have to be curtailed. I had to physically cancel a lunch I had pre-planned and explain that management deemed it a wasteful spend of resources.

Then I heard that my boss was flying last minute out to California. First Class. The Ticket Cost $9200.

Being a good employee I obeyed, and did not take them to lunch. We did, however, just get back from Dinner at a good steakhouse. And I may have treated them to 7 or so bottles of 2007 Joseph Phelps Insignia.

Also, since everyone worked such late hours today because of the dinner and whatnot (It was a pure business expense...I made sure everyone had with them a piece of paper to take notes with, and I passed around some pens), they all have the morning off. (Well, except one guy, who is taking his time in the afternoon.)

I will submit my expense report tomorrow. May be interesting.

Side Note: While a "Surf and Turf" option of Lobster and Steak was not specifically on the menu, the steakhouse was happy to provide such an option for whoever wanted it as a special request. Lots of people wanted it. Who am I to say no?

This.

I commute from the Poconos, PA to NYC everyday. (door to door between 1:45-2:30) a commuter bus is the way to go, if possible.

No Bus, and Commuter rail takes 2+ hours and runs only 2x a day.

I like where I live on the weekends...it's the weekdays that sort of blow.

I would probably settle for a 40% reduction in pay if I could get a job within 10 miles.'

Maybe.

may i ask you what kind of job pays that much ?
200 (250) K sounds like a fantasy to me... may i ask which currency we are talking here (i guess us$)

if its true bout the house, given your kid and the fact you could become unemploeyed i say: insta take it. if it f.s you up that much, you can always look out for a new job.

silly question: as you seem to value time very much, isnt there a chance to reduce the hours you have to work (working part-time).

Just had a shouting match with my boss in hallway in front of my staff. He followed me into my office and I told him to get the **** out.

He got the **** out.

Still have to submit my expense report.

See above. More accurately, I run the Marketing department at a large IT firm. At least, that is what I currrently do. I doubt I will be doing that for much longer

Not much since then. I drove home. I submitted my expenses...no word yet. COO called me asked me for his speech for an event and to set up a press thing tomorrow. I complied. No mention of the incident in my office. Chances are he has not yet heard.

I expect tomorrow to be fun.

You're a good man, King Fish.

Best outcome, at this point, is to get laid off, instead of fired, which is a good possibility. Collect severance and take the other job if it's still available.

Laid off vs Firing depends on how corporate your company is. The more bigger and corporate, the more pissing off your boss equals lay off.

They will not fire me until mid January...if they do at all. I am too valuable to them ATM.

I do have my doubts that I will be there come February...call me psychic.

Meeting with some fine folks at other companies next week, but am giving serious consideration to just working for myself...even in this job market.

or saying **** it all and just going back to playing pokah.

Lol they gave out bonus checks today. My boss did not give me mine. He has been amazingly "not around" all day.

Confirmed with accounting that said check exists. He just "forgot" to find me and hand it to me. Staked out his office for an hour or so...then had to leave.

Cool thing is that no matter what power he thinks he has, he has to give me the check.

Setting up a meeting for Monday with him and my department. ****er wants to play games? Ok. Now he is gonna have to give me my check in front of an audience, and he gonna have to give a little speech about how I deserve it and how great I performed and how valuable I am.

He is far too stupid to realize what is about to happen.

Shoulda just given me my check...prick.

Game on.
