the kid of yours...you WILL regret missing out the hours lost you will NEVER get back.
I have been commuting 1.75 hours each way, sitting in a fricking cube for 30 years.
Both kids are grown and now have grandkids that I cant spend time with. The times I do have with them I am so worn out I am in Zombieland... my daughter calls me one of the POD people.
the fact that you weren't fistpumping after the job offer should tell you something...

Can I request a quick trip report of your life pls? I'd like to read it.

Re: Beat: I was offered a job for >$200,000/yr base salary today
i had a similar conversation with my dad a while back:
"son, you're supposed to be a man now. you were born with balls. that means, when the decisions you make can and will effect the current and future status of your family and possibly the generations to follow, you have to make the decision that might not be the easiest, most ideal, perfect world scenario for everyone involve for the betterment of the future."
my dad cross trained as a hazardous cargo hauler and spent a lot of time gone when i was young, just to provide a better life for my mom, sister, and i. sure, when i was young and everything seemed so easy, i resented him for not being around for some things. but as i got older and saw he was making the tough decision and going to miss out on a lot of our growing up, in an effort to provide a better, easier path than he had, and my grandparents had. it was probably harder on him not being there, than it was on us not having him around.
later on in life, the kids will realize what you did. the sacrifice you made to try to make their life better and more secure.
my advice would be to suffer through it for at least 4-5 years. get the time on the resume and try to make it work. earn the $200k and live like you're making $80k. get your home in order, put away for your child's future, better your family. the job may work out to be great or it may open the door to the perfect job that provides the security without the compromise.
if my dad hadn't made his choices, i probably wouldn't be where i am today. 30 years old, VP at a stable company in a field i love, earning $200k/yr (more than my mother and dad combined)

I do not want to hijack...maybe I will start a thread next week.
OP you make enough between you and your wife (she sounds like a keeper for sure) to start a college fund got for your kids.
Nothing wrong with grinding out life like the previous poster's dad, god bless him! I just think that if I had been a little bit less concerned with chasing dollars we all might have had happier lives.
OP sounds like you have an artistic side... any possibility you could start your own firm? Freelance from home?

For the love of god take it, worst case scenario you put a couple hundred in the bank PER YEAR for a couple of years and move on.
Do it for all of us who can't.

you're already letting some stranger at a daycare raise your 1 year old daughter most of the time, you not being around a few extra hours each day isn't going to make much of a difference at all.

OP has talent like Don Draper.
OP has a soul unlike Don Draper.
OP does drink like Don Draper.
OP does not bang every woman he sets eyes on unlike Don Draper.
OP has a wife like Don Draper.
Is OP happy? Is Don Draper happy?

Also, I did not particularly care for the people I interviewed with. I did not particularly care for the employees I met. I can bring in some of my own team, but would not feel right dragging some of the people I trust and like working with into this environment.
I just don't know that I can pass up that much money (closer to $250k with bonuses).
Currently make a good living, but nothing close to that. Though I do think my current company is headed towards busto within a year, so I do need to consider all offers. I could well be unemployed any day now.
I just know I will be hating life if I take this job. Also, have a 1-year old daughter, and this would mean much less time with her.
I also know I'll be hating life if I have no job next month.
I think I am going to pass on it. I have till Monday to give them a decision.
I am an idiot.

I'm grunching, but let me say that money isn't everything. I passed on a seven figure job for the job I have now because I wanted a better life especially time with my son. It was totally the right decision.

I've flipped again and now leaning towards taking it, and believe it or not 2p2 is affecting my decision a bit. I still need more time to think it over, and will probably vacillate another 50 times between now and then. It's such a marginal decision on something that will have a far than marginal impact on my life. I appreciate the advice. 2p2 never fails to surprise.
To answer some questions: I currently make around $150k/yr (with bonuses). Wife makes about $95k. We aren't hurting by any means. Live a comfortable life, have a savings, putting away for our daughter, etc. Poker was giving me an additional $40-70k per year, but I have to assume that is dried up, so really my quality of life will probably stay somewhat status quo, even though it is a huge bump in salary.
Moving is an option, and would have to be considered, but my wife specifically left her job to go to this new place that is close to home and has an awesome daycare. My daughter spending less time in a car is more important to me than me spending less time in a car.
As to why I interviewed, colleague/friend who worked at the company recommended me. I actually blew them off for a month, but they persisted. I went in figuring "what the hell...if they blow me away with an offer than maybe." They asked what my demands were. I said something I thought was a bit ridiculous. They said no problem, when can you start?
I work in marketing, but not on the commercial side anymore. It is mind numbingly dull. Started as a copywriter. Loved that. Eventually pushed towards management, and I hate it, but it pays the bills. When I took my first management role, I said it would be temporary, and would go back to what I love after a few years. You can see why I am reluctant to make the same "mistake?" again. I am a middle-leaning liberal wussbag who has hippie ideals and hates everything about a cubical environment and vowed that would not be me. I have little respect for the people I work for, but fear I am starting to become one of them.
I have not written for myself (outside of trololoolololoing) in about 5 years. I have 3 unfinished books. They will all be best sellers one day, and Michael Bay will produce (but not direct) the feature movies. I will be arrested one day for snorting coke off of a supermodel's inner thigh, and my wife will understand. She will be disappointed but she will understand. In the end, the experience will bring me closer to Robert Downy Jr., and it will result in a collab that will win us both Oscars. SrslySirius will direct the film, but will not be nominated for an award. We will exchange harsh words because of it and it will sever the tenuous hold on our friendship that existed since the early days of shooting the film. I will be upset but will be able to buy new friends. He will fade into obscurity and eventually kill a hooker and go to jail, where he will be raped often. No one will remember him, except as the guy who directed that KingFish/RDJ production all those years ago. I will not visit him in prison.
In addition to the Prius I have an Audi A6 and a Honda Pilot. We need 4WD where we live, which is why 2 people have 3 cars (I wanted to sell Pilot but wife loves that car too much). I feel like a weenie when I drive the Prius, but it saves me about $20/day in gas.
Anything I left out?

Now reading replies. So far I think that you are absolutely nuts if you take this job.
