Hah! I smoked in planes! But subways and elevators? That sounds like mid 70s at best.

Did that too! Back in the 90s surgery and intensive care units even had actually a break room where you could smoke.

I think I remember smoking in elevators in Vegas as recently as this century.

Subway platforms and stations, definitely. Actually in a car, maybe the Paris Metro ~20 years ago?

eta2: Sickest brag is my high school had a smoking lounge - for students.

As did mine. They closed it after my sophomore year - 1984. I remember in 7th grade (1980), while playing a video game at the 7-11 that was next to the school, I loaned a buddy of mine (who was also 12 years old) 3 quarters so he could get himself a pack of cigarettes.

My first flight out to Vegas in 1989, my seat was in the smoking section of the plane.

I remember when the cable TV company first ran all the cable feeds underground in our neighborhood (1983). 2 years later my Dad finally broke down and subscribed. Even more amazing to me than having more than 6 channels to choose from was having a remote control. Being able to mute commercials and not have to walk up to the TV to change the channel was possibly the biggest technological upgrade in daily life until cell phones and the internet came around in the mid 90's.

I remember when the only non-white people in TV commercials were OJ Simpson flying through airports and Mohammad Ali smashing bugs.

Looking back from current perspective, it's amazing how much more racist US society was even in the 70's & 80's, without really realizing it at the time.

Example: There's a movie called "Revenge of the Nerds" that I'd enjoyed back in the early 80's. Saw it again on cable last year for the first time in a few decades and was stunned to see a college football team portrayed - with every single player white! And I'd never even noticed that at all when I'd seen the movie several times 30+ years ago.

Anyway, sorry for interrupting, Dom, just another old fogy (though not quite as old as you!) reminiscing.

By the way, Dom, I had thought FranFran was the Post Master on this site, but with 66,000 posts in 15 years, I believe you may have topped his DPA (Daily Post Average). I guess you deserve some sort of award for that, sir. Um, well done?

I like hiking, dinners out with my gal, Netflix at home, lots of poker and lots of golf
