When is the latest time to register for a tournament? When is the latest time to register for a tournament?

Obviously if you preregister, you will get to play the entire tournament and start with at least 75bb at the very minimum. Though its more likely 100bb or 150bb or even 200bb plus.

I read that if you register at 100/200 and get 3000 chips, its not a good idea b/c its basically push/fold mode. So does that mean in general don't register if you going to start with under 20bbs? I see lot of ppl that register for tournaments especially the big ones like 1 hour plus into registration many times. Of course some of those are satellite winners. But is it even worth it to play satellites to tournaments if win a seat, its going to be at least 1 hour plus into the tournament?

I read the argument is if you have good post flop play, obviously register early. But if you suck post flop and deep stack, registering late is actually a good idea? So basically if someone isn't good at post flop poker and actually prefers push/fold, then registering later is a good idea?

Also someone presented an argument that registering late helps your hourly. At first i didn't understood this but then someone said if you going to be playing a 10/9 style early on... then preregistering doesn't really do much to hourly? First off, how is the case because if you play very tight early on and theres loose players, you could stack them for 100bb early and build a chip lead. Can someone explain this?

I'm curious but does anyone out there never prereg for a tournament and always register say at least 30 minute or even 1 hour later on? The thing is if you are still in a tournament say 5 hours into it and play the full 5 hours, yes you played the full thing. But of course if you late reg like 1 hour into it, thats even better since you played less and thats assuming you have the same chip size at both.

I know there are some touranments where its like 200bb plus and slow structure like 20 minute blinds. Is my logic wrong that early on assuming there are no fish, then the early levels are pretty much a waste of time and competent players aren't putting 200bb into it without close to the nuts? I believe i read someone mentioned that it was in some live tournament where ppl said it was ridiculous in the early levels b/c every player started with like 500bb or so and each level was like 1 hour long and basically the entire day was a waste of time. Does anyone know which tournament this was and are there tournaments like this online? I assume those high roller live tournaments are all like this as they are basically a deep stack sng?

What about turbo tournaments? I can't imagine anyone ever late registering into these more than 15 minutes into it as most of these tournaments take 3-5 hours to finish tops. I assume its almost never a good idea for any player to late reg a turbo tournament?

Reason why i ask these questions is many times i see tournaments that i want to play but then i see its already 30 minute or 1 hour into it. But when i look at how much bb i start with, usually i still get at least 40bb minimum. Would you say its still worth it to register?

I guess how many bb minimum should one still play a tournament is my main question. And does it depend on if you suck at post flop or good at it.

Thank you.
