I have a Dell XPS 1710 laptop. I've had it for two years and it's about time for an upgrade. I play exclusively on this computer and don't have a baller setup or anything.

I do take notes.

I've had my best results in preliminary events. Anywhere from like $2000-$5000 full ring NLHE. I've also been really successful in HU NLHE tournaments. Heads up tournaments are the most exciting IMO.

I don't use PT or HUD.

I'm not anywhere close to as good of an online tournament player as the top ranked online tournament players. I have a lot to learn. I always pay attention to the great online players when I'm in an online MTT with them to try to learn as much as possible.

I'm trying to get the FTOPS win. So far 2 shallow cashes in 4 attempts. Holla.

To many people are just ready to give up, as I mentioned earlier in this thread. Everyone is ready to just chalk spots up to coolers.

I tried doing adderrol like one week while playing and it did help a lil I think. Still, I'm never gonna try to go find it and I was nervous about the possibility of getting hooked. No energy drinks.

I've gotten really good at calculating opponents stack sizes over the past couple of years. It's like shuffling chips, you get better with time. Practice eyeballing stacks everytime someone puts their chips in the middle. Try to count it out in your head before the dealer does. This will help.

I ran a pretty big one in the WSOP prelim that I finished 2nd in. With 40ish people left this kid Carter Gil minraised up front, a fish called. Carter looked really weak to me, so I looked down at 84o and raised it to like 7bb total. Carter instafolded and fish called. I flopped no hand no draw on like 662. guy checked and I decided to move in full pot. He tanked 4 minutes and folded AK faceup. The bluff isn't too far from standard, but it was a risky and memorable one considering what was at stake.

I'm happy when I play, definitely. I enjoy poker.

I very rarely speak at the table.

I just really focus hard late in tournaments.

I'm not the guy to ask about learning PLO, sorry.

Don't really have a question, just wanted to say nice well. I remember back like 4 years ago, it must have been, you added me on facebook as a friend after we had been grinding the 215 SNGs on Party and you were super-stoked and friendly 'cause you had won 10k or something and it was your biggest payday ever... I remember you just mentioning that you had recently become playing professionally, and the moment definitely stuck for me, so in some minor way, I think you were an influence to my road to profesional play. Anyways, been nice to see you do well over the years. Cheers.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

will you coach me? I live in t-town. Its cool if not.

What players do you hate seeing on your left in live tournaments or in online mtt's?

Also, Im a big hockey fan, why San Jose if you grew up in B-Ham? I know that there are some minor league teams there and in huntsville that are decent.

Patrick Antonius's wife or Kimberly Lansing?

How much did it help you improving your game having already sick players like Jon Little talking strategy with you?

1. wondering if any of your friends today are poker players and if so what does your relationship with them consist of?

2. if you lost all your online money and can only redeposit $50 once a month... what games do you play to run it back up to a healthy BR. I'm interested in how someone who plays sng's, cash, & mtts transition from game to game at different levels. what kind of plan do you make?

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

v nice well so far

For you, is it all about the money? If not, then what? Do you ever get apathetic thinking that you've made more in a couple of years than some middle aged dude grinding his life out?

Also, if you had a choice between playing in a tough field full of the best players (both live and online) and playing in a field full of fish, both having the same payday, which would you choose? How much does sheer competition and wanting to be the best against the best play into how you view poker? Worth more or less than the money you win?

Sorry, but coaching is something else I've always shyed away from. I figure there's a very small market for it. I would have to charge a lot to make it worthwhile and maybe only older rich guys would be willing to pay that rate consistently.

I hate seeing a guy like Cory Carroll to my left. Guys like Brandon Cantu, Ryan Young, Gus Hansen, JC Tran. These are all guys that play tons and tons of hands and are going to make your life miserable.

I'm not as big of a hockey fan as I used to be. I remember being at Bay 101 in 2007 though and going to Sharks' games on back-to-back nights. I recall those two nights as being some of the most fun sporting events I've ever attended. Aside from that, the only NHL games I've seen have been LA Kings games, and the Kings are just horrid and hard to root for.

God, you're gonna make me choose between Maya and Kimberly? Can I have both?

It helped me immensely being in contact a guy like Jon as I moved up the ranks. I almost cannot put it into words. It was really cool having a friend who was in pretty much the exact situations as me all along. If you look at our careers, they've taken a remarkably similar path. Maybe more important than the strategy talk was having someone to consult with about the game, the direction of our lives, etc. I've talked with tons of guys about this kind of stuff deep into the nights on AIM. I know there were a couple times for Jon and me that we wanted to just leave the game behind, but we talked each other into sticking with it.

Some of my very best friends right now are my poker roommates from Vegas. We talk almost daily. I think that's what you're asking. I'm lucky to have an expanding group of non-poker friends here in Alabama. When I'm hanging out with them, the subject of poker doesn't even come up unless it's like on the TV at the bar. Then, I get a multitude of questions.

Ouch, $50/month sounds painful. I suppose I would follow bankroll requirements and grind the appropriate microstakes cash games. I honestly don't even know if there are games that small online. If the rake is disproportionately larger in the smaller SnGs like it used to be (ex $5-1's compared to $10-1s), it would make SnGs not even an option.

It definitely IS about the money to an extent. I didn't get into the game for the competition. I got into the game because the idea of making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year playing cards appealed to me. At the same time, I want to be considered one of the best tournament players ever at some point. Titles like Player of the Year are very important to me, and the pursuit of that title was the main reason I decided to put off school an additional semester in the fall of 2006. It wasn't because I wanted to grind out the most possible money. I don't think I've ever really been apathetic after making the money that I've made. Obviously, it's a nice situation knowing that what I've made in the last few years is more than I would've over the course of the majority of my career in another job though. I would definitely choose to play against great players if the value was the same. It's always fun to beat the best, right?

I believe at the lowpoint of my poker playing days, I was a $3,500 loser. I was definitely playing over my head.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

Hey Shannon,

First gl in college as i am also a college student.

My question is that I have found pretty good success grinding 5-10 dollar 6 man SNG's, but I cant translate that success into tournaments. Any advice to make the transition?

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

If Florida and Alabama met this weekend (for SEC championship), how would you set the line, who would be the favorite? What kind of moneyline would you lay on the underdog?
