The year 2007 actually wasn't as bad as everyone thought it was. I think the depression and heartbreak that I expressed in my blog made it seem worse than it was. Believe it or not I lost a very tiny figure overall in poker tournaments. I did lose tons and tons of money over a few sessions of high limit Chinese poker, and I tilted away tens of thousands over a one week span at Commerce playing live and online cash as a result of my inability to perform in tournaments.

That said, I don't really know how to interpret the last 3 years. I've played maybe 250? live tournaments over that time. The reality, as you guys know, is that the difference in what can turn a break even year to a monster year on the live tournament circuit is winning a coinflip or having a hand hold up for all your chips with, say, 10 players left in a WPT.

Heh, Mike Katz is the nuts. I think you're being sarcastic.

How much do you know about my game more live side then online. If any what have you heard negative and pos

I've seriously considered hellmuthing it and sitting out first 2 levels so I at least make antees 25% of the 10ks I play.

Patience, patience, patience. I see so many players that just don't have it in them. Too many guys are ready to just chalk hands up to coolers and stick their money in. I try my best to avoid marginal spots, and I try to leave my ego at the door. I'm not trying to mix it up with the very best players and neither should you.

Also, I've found it so ****ing liberating to accept responsibility for mistakes I've made in tournaments and not blame anyone else. No one wants to hear your bad beat stories. This might be the single biggest thing that has helped my game over the last year or so. Try to make the best decisions, don't educate others, and show the other players respect.

I don't think I'll be able to make it back to Aussie into 2011, a painful four year absence from my last trip in 2007.

Aside from some poker sessions where I spewed money that I otherwise wouldn't've had, I really haven't wasted that much money. I bought a $27,000 2004 Chevy Tahoe in early 2006, and that is really the only big (lol) purchase I've made. I was raised as a typical middle class guy in the south, so I'm mostly plain, shy and not very extravagant. I guess that's helped. I've probably dumped $20,000 lifetime in the pit and maybe $100,000 career in nightlife. That is part of the territory though, and I don't really regret it too much. I do my best to avoid the pit totally now, but there's always the obligatory $2000 blackjack hand to chase the cost of the nightclub table every now and then at 5 a.m.

Shaun,
I think we've played just once live in that mixed hold 'em event in the '08 WSOP. I honestly haven't heard much but I could tell that you're a very good player. I guess you've surfaced into the live arena more recently while I've kinda been away at school, so I guess that explains it.

What have you added to your game in the last 3 months and what have you taken away?

I live in Tuscaloosa. I rarely visit p5s, so I didn't know I was #1 in AL. I play like 10 tournies a week, so just grind a bunch and pass me

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

When you were learning the game, what things did you do to define leaks in your game and how did you go about solving them?

Thanks

I've only been playing online the last 3 months. I've stopped 4 bet bluffing almost completely. I'd say I've added the ability to become increasingly more patient.

Now go win the WPT!
