Why are some smart people so politically correct/nice?

The fact that he thinks that Jeter is the best player in baseball indicates that he is is a moron incapable of rational thought.

Edit: Or maybe he doesn't actually follow baseball and is just an idiot for pretending to.

Who would you like to meet in the poker world that you haven't met yet?

Thank you.
Na, I never bring up poker when talking to girls. It should be noted that I'm not very good at pickup though. Actually, the subject does come up but only when we're in Vegas or LA or something. Then, if girls ask why I'm in town I tell them the truth, but it is limited to the words "I play poker." I think there is still a certain stigma with how women view professional "gamblers", so I just avoid the topic. If they knew that was a successful poker player it might be a different story, but I'm not going to tell them that. If she's the right girl she'll find out soon enough. I guess if my friends and I went around Vegas flashing thousands of dollars and flaunting the fact that we live pretty extravagantly and play poker full-time, we'd probably have a lot more success. I know a lot of poker players are doing that type of thing. Those aren't really the type of women I'm looking for though (atleast not for the long term).

I do not get paid by Cardplayer for having my blog feed shown there. I did get paid for the 8 articles I wrote for the magazine in 2007. I got lazy and quit writing in late 2007. Hopefully I'll get back into it soon. A lot of it had to do with the fact that I hated the game so much at that time and the last thing I wanted to do was write about it.

I look forward to meeting Peter Eastgate.

Eagles,
Thanks for your comments. As you know, only a tiny, tiny percentage of people are educating themselves to a point that they can invest and turn a couple points of profit. I was referring to those that are just gambling.

When I was asked who the best player was, I was referring in terms of 5-tool, raw baseball talent. I think it would be hard to argue that Derek isn't in, atleast that top 7 or 8. You're definitely much more knowledgable about the subject than I am. Other guys I would put in that 5-tool category are guys like A-Rod, Grady Sizemore, and even Josh Hamilton and David Wright.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

This place has gone to **** since Jurollo left.

There is just no way that Jurollo would have let some worthless -EV online player with less than 300 posts, of which the vast majority are tooting him/his click's horn or his own strategy posts, have his own well in 2p2 mttc.

Its just sad that all you have to do is get lucky in a few live tourneys and become a famous superstar! Its too bad I've only played like 7 live tourneys where if I won I'd be famous like Shannon ****ing Shorr! If i ran good, or maybe if Tiffany Michelle showed up to Turning Stone events .... THEN MAYBE I CAN HAVE A WEBSITE- STEALTHMUNK 'POKER'S SLAVE TO EXCELLENCE' WRITE CARDPLAYER ARTICLES AND SIGN MY NAME "SM" AT THE END OF EVERY POST.

Shannon Shorr is the epitome of everything that is wrong with the mainstreaming of poker and its disgusting that this well has gotten to three pages.

I mean, this is just a microcosm of you and poker. You are terrible at poker, yet several people actually buy that you are poker's slave to excellence, and worthy of a "well." You are clearly terrible at sports betting, and have no clue about what you are talking about. Derek Jeter isn't even close to the best player in baseball. Its just not even close. You'd be a ****ty GM if the first player you'd pick would be "Derek Jeter in his prime" You are just a moron. Yet, you still manage to sound like an arrogant insufferable douchebag in anything you write, and I'm sure there are a lot of ****ing idiots that are gonna read that paragraph of gibberish supporting your Derek Jeter choice and think "damn he knows what he's talking about he's shannon shorr."

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. STFU. OMG. YOU ARE REALLY REALLY REALLY DUMB.

also your "prowess" in sportsbetting and poker are both falsely created by dumb luck variance! great life!

Im really trying to be honest with myself about my game and wanted to see what you thought could help me improve. I've had limited success on the tour, but I want to be better and one of the best..otherwise there is no real reason to continue playing poker. Im at a crossroad right now deciding if i should continue in poker or pursue other paths.

Champie,
Thanks much. I think you're a tough tournament player. You don't really play that much, and we've played so little that I'm really not sure what to say. I do think you have the psychological makeup to be a great tournament player one day. I don't think there's any one thing I could suggest to becoming a better tournament player. Maybe just try to avoid the marginal spots and be patient, patient, patient. If you're enjoying playing tournament poker, continue to do it. If not, maybe go in another direction. Always enjoy seeing you. Hope your family is doing well.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

I wanted first to say thank you for your kindly returning my e-mail a while back when I wrote and asked you about the perils of being a live player transplanted to Birmingham. Hopefully I will bump into you some thirsty Thursday next summer and I will say "hi" if I see you(assuming I would recognize you LOL).

I LOLed at Gatsby being your favorite novel it fits with you not spending extravagantly on yourself, and not being the guy that tells how successful you are to do well with women. That makes you a very likable guy to be sure!!

You mention that you only read one strategy book. I wonder which one. Also, since you didn't, how did you put the basics of your game together? I mean surely there was a gap in when you just started and met very good players that had lucid things to say about the game that you chatted with on AIM.

What were the first several real "ah ha" lessons that really clicked, and you really knew you could drastically change the equity you had in the game? What were the last few things that made you slap your forehead and say "Wow" about the game?

Thank you again so much for taking the time to do this!

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

Your knowledge of our history is congruent to your manners and Coleridgean clarity of thought.

Kentucky was a neutral Commonweath. I have ancestors on both sides of the War. They did put the boot on the throat of the South in "reconstruction"(there wasn't really one), it didn't work out well. It was a lesson we had to re-learn in WWI before we got it right in WWII...look it up and learn something...what could it hurt? You have all the time in the world living in your mom's basement anyway.
Thermonuclear weapons did not make an appearance for a hundred years after the end of the Civil War. Note when you look it up it was nuke not atomic ordinance you were wishing for.

Nice comeback simpleton.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

Verb 1. nuke - strike at with firepower or bombs; "zap the enemy"

although most people from the south aren't known for their understanding of the english language.

Re: The Well: Shannon Shorr

nuke
/nuk, nyuk/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [nook, nyook] Show IPA Pronunciation
noun, adjective, verb, nuked, nuk⋅ing. Informal.
–noun
1. a nuclear or thermonuclear weapon.
2. a nuclear power plant or nuclear reactor.
3. nuclear energy: to convert from coal to nuke.
–adjective
4. of or pertaining to a nuclear or thermonuclear weapon or to a nuclear plant.
–verb (used with object)
5. to attack, defeat, or destroy with or as if with nuclear weapons.
6. Slang. to cook or bake in a microwave oven.

I am assuming you didn't get your definition from the OED exactly. Way to use the 5th preference definition as though it were the only one. Excellently done.

Yes we are all toothless products of inbreeding that can't read or write, like Twain, Faulkner, H. L. Mencken, Tennessee Williams, Thomas Wolfe, Robert Penn Warren, Harper Lee, Truman Capote, Shelby Foote, I could keep going but I don't want to get carpal tunnel.

I am not going to acknowledge you anymore, I will not have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
