Hey guys,
First I apologize for my English. I am quite a fluent speaker but make a lot of mistakes in writing. As it is my third language I hope no difficulties in understanding on both sites Occure.
I am a decent live low stakes cash game player (50c/1$, yes it excisist in Hungary ;-) made 15000$ ) and quite a good low stakes MTT live player (made 6000$ within the last year, no buyin live was higher than 150$).
I tried my luck in online poker and realized the game was completely different. My buy in was always 11$ maximum and I didn't do well nor bad.
Because I think my game is live poker I started to play satellites for live events a week ago.
I was fortuned enough to make my way from 5,50$ to the final satellite for the 6000$package CPP Caribbean poker party.
This satellite is on Monday and honestly I **** my pants as I really want to win that tourney but never participated in such a high buy in tournament.
Do you have any strategycally tips for me how to play; when to stop and wait for the bubble to burst; what the differences are in high stakes online MTT's compared to low stakes.?
We take our chips over from the last Satellite. Avarage is 200000, I have 275000 , 30 people get the package and as it looks, about 70 people will qualify for the last event until Monday.
Blinds start at 1000/2000 300 ante and late reg. for those buying in for a lot of money is level 8 for 200.000 chips. Each level will be 16 min.
To kill my time I played another 22$ Sattelite for the new heavyweight 300.000$ guart. on Sunday and also made it.
Same question here any tips for my first shot in High stakes?
I am asking you quite generally because I would like to be very thankful to get any advise helping me improving my game and surviving these 2 tourneys.
The problem is, to be honest: My bankroll is not 21000$ as it should be because I am paying my med school tuition fee from playing poker so I never gave high stakes a shot and my education relies on poker so brm is nesseccary obligatory and life saving.
Thanks a lot
1. join runitonce.com
2. find out who the best players are and rail some of their high stakes mtts
3. there are some FTs in the lobby as well with hole cards which is a good source of info
4. try and treat it as any other mtt - if you get too invested in the money or too emotional it will negatively affect your decision making
High stakes online is pretty tough, even seasoned online pros are struggling to make a living nowadays. The edges are a lot thinner thus variance is a lot higher so be prepared to go on some swings.
Play some lower buy ins and get your feet wet first, study hard and improve your game. Sites like PartyPoker ans 888 might be better than PokerStars to start as you can play smaller fields and realise your equity easier. Then once you've had success over a reasonable sample (at least a few thousand games), you might be ready to make the transition.
There are of course higher buy ins that are worth playing due to the soft fields like the Sunday Million, WCOOPs and SCOOPs, but games like the $320 6 max $12k gtd are extremely tough.
Of course it's up to you, but there's my two cents after running a large stable for the last few years and having played 30k games.
