22 out of 65 Events offer at least one re-entry, with four of those offering only one re-entry per player. While this is an increase over last year, it's a significant decrease over the number of Events with re-entries available in earlier versions of this year's schedule. Version 4 had 35 Events with at least one re-entry available.

The reality is that - despite the protestations of some - re-entry Events are enormously popular. They offer players the chance to get back into an Event from which they'd busted and the prize pools in re-entry tournaments are significantly larger than non-re-entry tournaments at the same times and in the same formats. As I've mentioned in the past, re-entry is completely optional. For those who want to play a re-entry Event like a standard freezeout, that option is completely open to all players.

As for the payout structures, I don't know how to run a tournament with a "rubbish" pay structure. My fingers simply won't type one into a tournament file... so, no worries there.

Hey Bryan. At first glance schedule looks solid, great job! Can I ask for approximate payout structure in holdem events? Is it gonna be more like in standard daily schedule or more top heavy oldish one (10-12%) with bigger mincash (2-3x)?

TCOOP is least COOPy of the COOPs in that whatever little it means to be the spring champion or world champion of a game (I say little because with all the variance of poker, no one really thinks the winner of a random tournament is actually the best player in the world in that game, but it still means something and has a lot of prestige), it means even less to win a turbo. Therefore the argument that every player should have an equal chance to be the champion, the argument against re-entries with the most weight IMO, mostly goes away.

Coupled with the increased variance of turbo tournaments, it makes a lot of sense for TCOOP of all events to be re-entries.

Given the fact that it's by far the most popular format of most games, we probably could... but 15 out of 65 is fine.

Fantastic ones.

Seriously though, a Mega-Path (of course), weekly Rd 3s with a great spread of Rd 2s and Rd 1s, daily direct qualifiers right from the start (probably), Spin & Go (probably), Phase satellites, etc. The spread, complexity, and attention given to Main Event satellites in each series are all quite extensive, and TCOOP 2017 will be no exception to that standard.

$215 PL Omaha [6-Max, Turbo, 5-Stack]
$82 PL Omaha [6-Max, Turbo, Progressive Knockout (50%)]
$82 PL Omaha [3-Max, Zoom, Progressive Knockout (50%)]
$82 PL Omaha [6-Max, Win the Button]
$82 NL Omaha [6-Max, Progressive Knockout (50%)]
$215 PL Omaha [Turbo, Heads-Up]

These might be interesting but where are all(one is enough) normal 6max PLOs? What is meant to be the main Omaha event in this schedule? Who will be the champion of the champions?

PLO Sunday Grand TCOOP Edition with 250-500k GTD and Boom, dreams came true.

Hi Bryan,

can't see Triple Draw or Badugi? Theyre a lot more popular than some of the other formats if you could add/replace ;-)

thanks

Schedule looks great. Would play a ton if the rake was more reasonable or if this was a reg speed series. Now I'll play the NLSD and nothing else.

Those formats don't do well in TCOOP, thus they're not part of the menu. Triple Draw, at least, is incorporated into 8-Game, so there will be a chance to play some of that.

Thank you for mentioning this. Yes, the 4-Max layout issue has been addressed for 4-card hands. To be certain of this before the series runs, I'll be running at least one test.

Thanks! I believe that this is the best TCOOP we've ever put together, and that's before some of the changes, which I can't share quite yet, are announced.

Interesting. I truly didn't notice this while writing the schedule. When Version 1 is first created, one of the things I do is take a look at what ran well in previous iterations of the series. For TCOOP 2016, these are the PL Omaha Events which ran:

TCOOP-05: $82 PL Omaha [6-Max, Turbo, Progressive Super-Knockout], $100K Gtd
TCOOP-18: $82 PL Omaha [6-Max, Progressive Super-Knockout], $150K Guaranteed
TCOOP-30: $7.50+R PL Omaha [6-Max, 3x-Turbo], $50K Gtd
TCOOP-35: $27+R PL Omaha [6-Max, Turbo], $100K Gtd
TCOOP-41: $215 PL Omaha [Turbo, Heads-Up], $100K Gtd, No Late Registration

All of the above did well, though Event 41 overlaid by $600.

Having said that, I think that you raise a good point. Perhaps the 5-Stack will run better as a straight 6-Max, without the n-Stack element added to it.

Thank you for bringing this up! I'm not promising anything, but for my money your comment has very likely directly impacted the series and improved an Event. We'll see if my colleagues agree.

As always, thank you for the feedback, everyone!

TCOOP 2017 Final Schedule Announced

Hello again, everyone! I’m pleased to announce that the schedule for the 2017 Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) is set after much discussion and consideration of feedback. The schedule is shown below. Please note that the guarantees for individual Events will be posted when the Events are deployed to the PokerStars client. The overall guarantee for the series is $15,000,000!

In preparation for this series, quite a lot of feedback was incorporated into the changes which were made before setting the final version. I’ll highlight the changes, most of which were made in response to feedback, below. Note that some changes will be mentioned twice, in cases where the change involved applies to multiple days.

2017 Turbo Championship of Online Poker – All Times ET

Wednesday, January 18th

Event 01 - 08:00 - $215 NL Hold'em [Turbo, Ultra-Deep, Kickoff] (Re-Entries Available)

Event 05 - 16:00 - $82 NL Hold'em [8-Max, Turbo, Bubble Rush]
Change:
  • Event 04 was changed from a 1R1A Turbo to a Hyper-Turbo PKO in response to feedback from players, who pointed out that they really enjoy the Hyper-Turbo PKOs offered in our regular schedule, which are quite popular.

  • Event 08 was changed to 6-Max based on player feedback.
  • Event 10 was changed from $82 NLHE Zoom to a $320 Special Edition of the Fat Thursday, in response to player feedback that the Fast Friday Special Edition is a Zoom and that we didn’t need Zoom on back-to-back days, and also that a Special Edition of the Fat Thursday would be very popular.

Changes:
  • Compressed the spread of Event times on Sundays to start the day at a more reasonable time for all players.
  • Swapped time slots of NLHE Ultra-Deep and 8-Game in response to feedback that 8-Game was starting too early.
  • Increased buy-in on Event 61 in response to feedback that we needed a more expensive High-Roller Event. We’ll evaluate the success of this Event before considering hosting $5K or $10K Events in future TCOOPs.
  • Changed Event 61 from 9-Max to 8-Max in response to player feedback.
  • Changed Event 62 from 8-Max to 9-Max.
  • Added Event 63-L in response to voluminous feedback that a low-stakes companion for the Main Event would be very popular. This Event should be one of the biggest, most popular Events in TCOOP.

As you can see above, quite a lot of changes were made for this series, the overwhelming majority of them in response to feedback from our players. Looking at our feedback roll-up sheet, I can see that 15 separate feedback points were addressed in some way – in some cases impacting multiple Events per point – via improvements to the series. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback on TCOOP 2017! It’s quite gratifying to see so much interest in the series, and extremely satisfying to be able to incorporate so much of what has been requested this year.

TCOOP will appear in the PokerStars client in the first few days of January. In the meantime, we’ll be getting various items ready in preparation for launch day. One of those items, the prize table for the Player of the Series competition, is already finished. Here are the prizes for which players will be competing in January:

those will be price points for main event satellites, especially $109. maybe you could get away with $55 but $27 seems reasonable to me.

Amazing revisions Bryan! Thanks so much for incorporating all the players' feedback.

Am wondering if it's too late to not add one re-entry to a couple of these games. I noticed that all the PLO8 and NLO8 games don't have any. Upon further inspection, same applies to PLO.
