sad/surprising to see as these always tend to be...

Only thing that I'm kind of laughing at is: "goodbye poker career" and other messages of that ilk. He'll be back at an EPT sooner rather than later. Remind me of the last time someone who's considered "good at poker" scammed/cheated/stole and didn't find a way back into the game?

I'll wait.

Just putting here that Ben refunded me--for the events he owed from his package and also for my equity in the $5K Venetian debacle.

Judging by those backing this guy, he had a sizable network and his game was well respected. Thus the story has legs.

But the desperate path he took shouldn't be a shock to any. This scenario unfolds at a much greater frequency albeit for less money at lower mid stakes. The % of players that would steal from their family, friends and peers is greater than what is commonly believed.

Most humans cannot think rationally when broke or in a bind.

In the poker world this is "scummy". In the real world it's criminal.

Come on, it's good that you came clean about what happened but this is a load of BS. Even if it wasn't you definitely shouldn't say it because it just makes you look like an even bigger ass than you already do.

This is also a criminal offense, and possibly a felony.
double is just a random amt. it's hard to quantify what he owes to people past their actual investment. the additional punishment in this case is that he no longer has anyones trust and can't sell action/is looked at as a scumbag/and I would assume will get fired from whatever coaching site he is a coach at.

I refuse to believe that after so many years in the poker world that this is the first time he's ever scammed anyone . It clearly shows he has the means to pay people back , hence why I don't believe this was just a "mistake" based on him gambling away his money. Premeditated with intent to steal money from investors. Time to go back and look at all the packages this guy posted. BTW do yourself a favor and don't use the word "mistake" when trying to defend your actions.

I'm quite sad to read this. I quite liked Ben's strat vid's on TPE, and thought he was one of the better coaches there. He always presented them well and came across to me as a pro who knew what he was doing in poker and was doing well (enough) from it.

If such a desperate attempt to deceive the people who trusted him was an act completely out of character then his state of mind must have been something the equivalent of full-blown monkey tilt. It's hard to process.

Not sure what would have happened with a swap in this case. But he basically free rolled it?

Depending what people think swaps should also be paid for their % and a mark up imo.

I understand that if Pistons or someone else cashed they obviously wouldn't have to pay at this point but having it swapped is definitely a loss since they could have swapped with someone else or sold that %.

And a lot of the "pros" arent actually making much and have no savings. MTTs are such a tough way to make a living and save money.

The point some are missing here... what if the trust was so high for the "respected" player and no one called Ben out as Herm did?

Moral of the story: investors must perform due dilligence if in the poker investing community. Demand horses provide clear communication or not receive funds.

Sorry to hear about another scam... fml
