Rec-Fish: I suck at MTT Poker, but why?? Rec-Fish: I suck at MTT Poker, but why??

Okay, so I've decided to try to improve my MTT play, only I don't know where to begin or to be more precice, how to locate my weaknesses.

My History (skip to next paragraph if not interested):
Started playing Poker in 2010, played mostly cg, started at NL2, got to NL50SH, beat that, switched to NL100SH Rush, didn't adjust my game, got clobbered, lost 30 stacks, quit poker. Since January 2017 I feel like playing again, so I've decided to play MTTs.

I know that the sample size is to small but maybe you can already see a trend or something. Since I do have a full time job I don't have the time - or the patience - for regular speed mtts, I play mostly turbos and hypers.

I really hope you guys can help me, maybe point to some read worthy threads or something. I do watch tonkaaa and jamie staples on youtube but only the summaries. I tried the vids on gripsed but I'm not sure if I like 'em.

So here come the stats, if you need anything else, do ask!

Normal Speed (148 Tourneys, ITM 11.49%, ROI -30.49%)

Turbo Speed (184 Tourneys, ITM 11.96%, ROI -25.80%)

Hyper Turbo Speed (234 Tourneys, ITM 17.95%, ROI +21.09%)

You need more hands to draw any conclusions. 9k hands is just not enough.

Mandatory - LOL samplesize

Yes I iknow, but since I am a rec player it'll take years to get a meaningful samplesize. I was hoping you guys could just pretend the samplesize is bigger.

How long did it take you to get this sample?

Stats are from 1st January 2017 to now.

Just played a couple of 5$ Spin&Gos, won a few and a 27$ ticket to a sunday million sat. Which I also won.

So I'll be playing the anniversary sunday million on the 2nd of April. Good luck me!

Oh nice, well done. Best of luck in it.

A word of advice, stay away from spin and gos

Based on your 8k hand sample, it looks like so far you're raising tight so maybe raise a bit (3-6%~) wider. Again that could be a sample issue.

Thanks for the good wishes and your tips! You are right I tend to raise too tightly in mtts. I'm working on it.

Regarding Spin&Gos: I know, they are difficult to beat - especially at the lower levels - but I am doing okayish (and I do raise more in S&Gs, 47% VPIP, 45% PFR). I play the 3$ and (when available) the 5$ Spin&Gos. In 3$ I am breakeven, in the 5$ I am running hot at 39% itm, 69 evChip/game.

Just to have mentioned everything: I also play NL10SH Zoom which is going okay at 9.9 bb/100 (16.58 adjusted) after 24k Hands.

One question about the "BB won" and "All-in adjusted BB" columns. If the first value is lower than the second does that mean I am running bad? See first grafik for example.

It's really tough to draw any conclusions from this sample.

I'm trying to do a big review after 50K hands over 900 tourneys and when you drill down into the stats, they're such small samples that I'm having to find spots where I think I might not be doing well and going through individual hands and trying to find a trend there.

Since you're using PT4 - use the Hand Range Visualiser and mess around with some different spots that you come across e.g. raising all in, 3Betting pre, opening from UTG and see if you can see anything that way.

It means that, in scenarios where you were allin before the river you have "ran bad" but in reality "All-in adjusted BB" is just one, potentially small aspect of variance and it should not be used as a sole indicator of how you're running.

Also worth mentioning that with a sample so small, these numbers will virtually never be the same.

Also worth mentioning, STAY AWAY FROM SPIN AND GOS!!!!!!!!

Lol, unterstood!

What throws me of about those two stats is that they are not named the same and I wonder if they can even be compared. "All-in adjusted BB" shows ev adjusted BB for All-in situations and "BB won" just my winrate in general, doesn't it? I should be comparing "All-in adjusted BB" with something like "All-in BB won" if I wanted to know how I am running, right?

Smalll sample and bbEV numbers seem good. Low ITM considering stats so you might ICM spew a bit near bubble.

Your bb/100 is included in the EVbb/100. The EVbb/100 is exactly the same as bb/100 except the hands where you were all in are "adjusted". (Adjusted by your share of the all in pot, based on your equity and the potsize)
