Question about staking a friend Question about staking a friend

Say that I'm staking a friend $500 to play $1000 rebuy tournament, and he makes one re buy. I say that I should have 25% of his winnings because my 500 is 25% of the total cost of the tournament 500/(1000+1000). If he didn't make any rebuy I should have 50% (500/1000).

But my friend says that I have 50% from the start but when he rebuys I have 0% because I had 50% from the first buy in and 0% from the second buy in. He is counting a re buy as a new tournament when I say it's the same tournament just that my $500 represents a lower percentage of the tournament if he rebuys.

Who do you think is right?

I'd tend to say your friend is right. But usually, for tournaments that allow rebuy or reentry, this eventuality is covered by the staking contract. Look at the marketplace how this is done in the staking threads

I think you should of clarified this up before it started. Its a rebuy wasn't there any discussion about this eventuality? As it stands i think your friend is right you agreed to take 500 action of a 1000 buyin and it bricked.

if he plays it as a re-entry your friend is right. you would be freerolling him on the second buy-in.

Yes your firend is right just to clarify if he would give you 25% of the 2nd entry he is giving you $750 in value for your $500 because you got 500 already the first time and then would be getting an extra 250.

I say it should have been covered by agreement beforehand. As played now, I tend to go with your friend.

Rebuy is not the same as re-entry. If its re-entry, you definitely don't have action. If its rebuy I could make a strong case that you do have action (even though its very unusual to invest a fixed $ amount in a rebuy tournament).

You either staked him or you did not stake him. Rebuys/Rentrys included. 50% for 50%.

It's not too complex.

Re-entry:

$1k, $500 staked from friend for 50% of profit. Brick.
$1k, new entry, no stake, 100% for player.

Rebuy:

$1k, $500 staked from friend for 50% of profit. Immediate rebuy for double stack, $2k total. Friend now owns 25%.

Rebuy:

$1k, $500 staked from friend for 50% of profit. Brick.
Rebuy $1k. Ambiguous.
