As a MTT player I go with a bankroll management system of 100 buy ins. So for $2.20 MTTs my base bankroll would be and is $220. Looking for opinions here as to how much you feel is necessary to take a few tries at a $5.50 MTT. Do you feel one should wait til the bankroll has the full 100 buy ins? Perhaps 50 buy ins and take a few tries, but what kind of stop loss do you think would be ideal in this scenario. Thanks for any input.

Just raise the stakes partially as you hit upon your bankroll.

So if you got 300$ you can play play 3 x 5$ and 8 x 2$ instead of 15 x 2$ for example. The ABI in this is ~3$

When you get to 400$ you can obv play 4$, so a mix of 4$, 2$ and 5$.

However if you try to trick the abi by playing big $109 and then 100 $1 mtts then it won't work. The wider the gap between lowest and highest bi that you play the bigger your variance is. (NoahSD discusses this spread in his famous article).

100 buyins is laughably small for mtts (especially at micros with huge fields) and you're doomed to go broke. Any experienced player would have high risk of ruin.

Taking higher shots once in a while can be a nice way to keep your poker blood cookin', I'd advise in looking for a higher BI tournament that is played like once a day or a week, so for someone with a 200$ Bankroll you might play the Storm on sundays or the big 5.5$ daily but nothing else above the BR.
