Re: ***OFFICIAL Stars 2012 MTT Discussion Thread***

I don't know if 'average length of tournament' is a good idea because it would stop some casual players from registering, but I think 'yesterday's results' or 'most recent results' might be a good alternative. It'd be a simple shortcut button that would open up the lobby of the previous day's corresponding tournament, or the previous edition for special tourneys. That'd allow people to check how long the tourney lasted yesterday if they wished, but wouldn't draw attention to the fact that some tourneys might take longer than the casual player would want. It would also allow the casual player to check how many runners the tourney is likely to have, how much for first etc, before the registration period ends.

Re: ***OFFICIAL Stars 2012 MTT Discussion Thread***

1) Why aren't Super KOs marked as such in the lobby (either main or tournament)? I think they would def be more popular if they were and you did mark the SCOOP Super KO tournaments as such.

2) As far as I can see the highest Super KO on the regular schedule is a 10+10+1. Why not trial a 25+25+2 and a 50+50+4? Maybe make the 50+50 a daily special and have a 104+104+7 (215 ticket) Sunday special.

Not aimed at you specifically, but I don't like how we are trying to blatantly deceive fish into playing something they might not want to play.

edit- @simplicity - this is not exactly deception, the info is either there for everyone or no one. And any grinder with a lil brain can guesstimate how long an mtt will last. Anything that drives out recreational players is bad for the game imo.

Also, not sure why people who need to plan their schedule on the dot want to grind mtts.

Re: ***OFFICIAL Stars 2012 MTT Discussion Thread***

Would love to see a weekly 8-game, perhaps on Saturday, with a decent guarantee. Make it a 30+3 or around there and dress it in red!

All of the 8-game mtts currently get about 11 runners, and I'm convinced there's way more willing participants, especially if you promote it a little bit, thanks.

Not just fish... we've noticed that "2-Day" in a title seems to have an impact on the number of players who register, despite that fact that Day 2 won't be relevant to a very small portion of the field. I think that the same kind of logic [sic] applies here.

Twice as many seats are being awarded in each, making it much easier to get in.

I'd love to have such a tournament, however we have had difficulty in keeping such PLO/PLO8 tournaments sustainable. Do you have a suggested time/format?

scrap every $3 plo mtt with a $500 gtd and make a red plo 4r 4max with a $4444 guarantee and increase the gtd by 10k every week when it grows

Hi Bryan, the first point above is a big reason why having the stats for previously completed tournaments available in some way is needed. If the tourney you are wanting to play finished yesterday's running earlier than it stayed in the lobby for, there's no way to find out useful stuff (imo) such as avg. length, no. of runners, prizes etc.
As theginger suggested above, maybe have a link somewhere - such as in the tournament info sub-lobby - would be a way to do it without making this info too readily available for the fish who might be put off by it.

Bryan,

I really think there are ways to make the PLO8/NLO8 schedule more optimizing/efficient. I'm just going to keep it simple and not bring up every single changed outlined here, since it's already been raised. It sounds like you're planning on revamping the schedule up soon, so I'll leave that to your team and add some input afterwards (if needed).

In the meantime, if I could make two changes, I would do the following:
1. Change one of the $33 PLO8s to a $33 NLO8 (perhaps a turbo?).
2. Add a $25-$55 NLO8 hyper during primetime (2 PM EST). Either move one of the existing ones that runs at midnight EST to here or add a new entirely.

As always, thanks for reading.

Cheers

Re: ***OFFICIAL Stars 2012 MTT Discussion Thread***

i think it would be optimal if you guys were to add a 109 plo mtt to have it earlier in the day(around when the 265ko is). plo is alot more popular in europe, so haveing a mtt around their eveningtime would be ideal. as far as structures go i think that whatever you have with your current 109 plo8 works fine. I also played the .be online challenge main event(320e) buyin, and really loved the structure. i think that something like this could be added as a monthly special, like the last sunday of each month is a 200-1k buyin 2day event and be added as a major. i really like playing events like this with such a good structure, but i wouldnt want to be left 1 tabling it for hours every sunday.

With the success of mix games during big tournament series, it is odd that they don’t see the same success on a normal schedule. I suggest that all the “Weeklys” move to Saturday EXCEPT the following, which would be held on Sundays: WeeklyPLO, WeeklyPLO8, Weekly6max, Weekly Turbo, Weekly HU, WeeklyNLO8.

Secondly what I would do is add a lower tier to the mix games with a “Weekly H” and a Weekly L”. The buyin would be something that you guys would be better at setting because I have a conflict of interest. That being said, I’m guessing somewhere between $27 and $44 would give it enough prestige, and yet open it up to more people. This change would transform Saturday to not only a “small stakes” day, but also a mix game day.

The main changes that would have to be made would be ditching the Saturday red PLOs in exchange for the “Weekly Ls”. Also Change the HU to a turbo, and start it later Sunday evening (between 15:30 and 17:00 mountain time). There has been much talk about adding a good structure HU tournament, so add one in red on Thursday evenings. The Sunday one will see more success with a faster and easier to multi table structure.
I bolded what i really love about this idea. I think other formats of poker need more support and more advertising. Creating weekly L's is an awesome concept, I think a 22$ buy in advertised with decent satellites could draw some pretty impressive fields. (50-250 players) Even though the majority of people would still be playing NL holdem mtt's, a ton of players including myself would be drawn to the low/high stakes mixed tournaments. There is something just fun about multi tabling non holdem events in tournaments that are worthwhile, you feel like a mini Ivey. Usually for low stakes grinders these opportunities only come up during SCOOP.

The one thing I think would be super cool would be a two tier "weekly only" TLB. This TLB would be for just the weekly events, competition drives a lot of players, and even small stakes grinders like to emulate the competition of the high stakes grinders. The creation of a 2nd lower tier of the weeklys would be phenomenal. I think a lot of people would play the Saturday weeklys to see if they can put up decent numbers on the TLB, then if they are fairly high on the board, make a run for it on Sundays. This is good though, because the Sunday weeklys shouldn't need that much help, as they are the more popular formats and will have no problems hitting their guarantee anyways.

Playing in series like the micro mini's or the scoop are fun, but are also true grindfests, not many players have the stamina (or time commitment) to make true runs at the TLB boards. This isn't a negative quality, this creates more prestige to the TLB awards imo. But, It would be extremely fun for a much smaller but more frequent TLB in just 2 days. Overall, if the "weekly only" tlb existed you would see a substantial growth in these weekly tournaments, not only in the highs but especially in the lows. And, if done correctly and blogged about, for instance with headlines like "Anders 'Donald' Berg wins the Weekly H's TLB for the 4th week, setting a new record" the popularity in these events would likely grow fast. This could be big for Stars and for some player exposure.

Re: ***OFFICIAL Stars 2012 MTT Discussion Thread***

I think a $1+R (2x-/3x-) Turbo MTTSNG would be a good idea. Player limit should be more than 180, maybe 350. Like a smaller version of those massive $1+R 3x-turbo tournies. Should be popular.
