Yes it should be very easy to put in. Just look on the back of your laptop and find where your current HDD is. Most cases you can do it without totally taking the system apart. If you can unscrew and find your current HDD the new install is simple.

You may need a new OS or some ability to ghost your current drive. A fresh install is never bad tho.

I am running the 27'' Dell to my laptop using this. It works fine but scrolling is not perfect when I have a bunch of tables running, it feels sluggish, not as sharp as I would like to.

Btw does anyone know of any tweaks I can try to make it run smoother?

It has arrived. Ordered one without a SATA to USB connector though oops. So now have to wait for that to arrive.

Why not hook it up using a sata cable? Like, as a replacement for your current drive? I have never tried running an internal hd the way you are going to attempt but sounds like a terrible idea.

I'm not sure what you mean? The sata cable is to transfer the old drive to the new. Then install the new in place of the old. Unless I am terribly mistaken?

oic, I suppose that would work.

Alright chaps

I'm a complete ****** with all this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am looking to get a desktop with two 24 inch monitors. Im only using this for poker, internet, watch films etc so dont need anything top of the range.

I'm looking to tile 12 tables on each screen, so from my understanding I need monitors with 1920/1200 resolution?

I know there's probably tons of better places to buy but just from this, what sort of thing should I be looking for from here, monitor wise;

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/deskto...-criteria.html

Dont want to spend more than £500, just including one monitor and the pc in that price. Am open to getting a laptop with monitor based on peoples thoughts etc?

$10 on Stars to anyone that can give me the best advice/links on what to do

Just ran a test on Pokerstars, and the smallest table I can make is 493x372 - which won't quite 12 table tile without overlap on 1920/1200.

As for what you should be looking for in a monitor in todays market, I have no idea.

Small overlap is fine. More clueless on what desktop to buy really.

Any particular specifications I should be looking to meet when buying a desktop/laptop? For example, operating system, processors, graphics cards etc?

As it's only for poker and basic use, is all of this fairly trivial?

I'd get an SSD, but everything else is trivial in the sense that you don't need much. Just make sure your video card and run two monitors.

Anyone know if a standard 22inch asus monitor would work with a 15" 2011 macbook pro? If I just plugged them into each other, would it be compatible? 4 tabling makes me squint on a 15" so I am thinking a 22 inch would be really nice.

Laptop specs:
15" 2011 MBP 2.2ghz i7 4gb ram 156gb SSD AMD Radeon 6750M 1024MB HD Matte Screen 19xx x 12xx resolution (something like that).

I am a total noob with hardware.

^ It will work if you have an external video port out through which you can connect to your monitor. As far as I can tell your macbook has a mini-Displayport out, so depending on the available inputs on your monitor you will need either
1) a mini-DP to DP cable
2) a mini-DP to DVI adapter + a DVI cable
3) same as (2) but with HDMI or VGA instead of DVI

If you go the adapter route, make sure to buy an "active" adapter (it'll be explicitly mentioned) to be able to support your full 1920x1200 resolution

PS. Screen size doesn't matter, only look at resolution

Long time lurker, first time poster. My desktop just crashed. Looking at what basic specs I need. I play max of 12 tables at once on 2 sites. I use HM2 and generally have iTunes and couple of websites open. Any help will be greatly appreciated... I don't want to spend to much. Budget under $800aud

Finally got around to doing this but have struck a problem.

I was hoping it would be as simple as cloning the old hard drive to my new SSD, taking out the old hd and putting the ssd in it's place but that hasn't quite worked.

According to the wizard that came with the ssd the cloning was successful but when I have put the ssd in and tried to start I get the message:

"Check cable connection!
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE Rom
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

As far as I can tell the ssd is insert as good as possible. Also do not think I have any kind of boot disk...

Am I doing something obvious wrong and does anyone have any solution suggestions?

Thanks

PXE is a protocol to boot from a networked drive. I would ensure that that HD is first in the boot order in the BIOS. If its installed correctly you should be able to see it in the BIOS.

Hello. Is it reasonable to compare the Apple Thunderbolt Display (https://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html) with a monitor an Asus Display PB278Q (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236294)

Do you think the Asus can serve as well as the Apple display?

For purposes of grinding poker? Absolutely. You will have the same real estate pixel wise to work with and at that price you linked to is a steal imo.

Research which has a matte screen. iirc new apple displays have glossy screens, and playing poker in a mirror is totally ****.

Right, thanks this pointed me in the right direction. I went into boot menu and just hit F9 to go back to default order and that sorted it.

Also Thanks to Doggz for the SSD recommendation seems to work quite well (although not as lightning as I had been dreaming haha) I haven't played round too much but I tried filtering hands in PT4 and that worked like a dream.

stuff like time it takes to open firefox/chrome or time it takes firefox to recommend websites as you type into the url bar were the first things I noticed. Hm2 also doesn't take an hour to load a million hand database. YRMV

Agreed, I think basically anything on glossy screens is terrible except it looks nice and shiny in the store

I like matte too but it isn't worth passing up a good deal on a glossy (which are much easier to find). Just position your monitor intelligently.
