Re: ***Official Laptop/Monitor/Computer/Grinding Equipment Discussion Thread***

Hey guys,

Looking to build a new desktop, but I don't know much about computers. I need something reliable that will let me run up to 30 tables with HEM, Skype, Firefox, Windows, etc with no lag on two monitors.

Most probably buying from this site. Hoping to get all components (including SSD) + another monitor for < $2k. Any input / advice appreciated:

Yeah when I got my one built I looked at newegg and pretty sure it didn't help me being in Aus.

Ferny, there's an independent computer retail shop in Aspley that build on site, it's only 20mins drive from your house I would think. I got mine built there and 2 years later it still runs like a dream. Beauty of it is also that you also have the support there from real computer professionals if something goes wrong. I went in there, told them exactly what I needed and 2 days later it was built at a cheaper price than the equivalent specs in Harvey Norman type stores. I even told them it was largely going to be used for poker softwares etc so it needed to run well with multiple programs running.

If it seems like something you'd be keen on, PM me and I'll give you more details on skype/aim. It'd be worth at least going in and having a chat to them imo and get a quote.

Hey man.. I got that laptop you showed me on Black Friday and LOVE it.

Noob question though- the backlit keyboard is always on when plugged in.. Do the lightbulbs or whatever burn out ever? Hope not. Thanks!

it does sound like this usb adapter may be fine for the purpose, still be nice to know all my options though

I assume they are LEDs, in which case no, they don't burn out per say.

Re: ***Official Laptop/Monitor/Computer/Grinding Equipment Discussion Thread***

Looking to buy a used monitor.. Looking into a few in my area.

Dell 24" UltraSharp E248WFP - Pros: 1920:1200, delivery
$190aud

Acer 27" B273H - Pros: HD 27 inches
$250aud

LG 24" Full HD LED (not sure model number says Super LED on box) - Pro:brand new n box
$160aud

I have a brand new Lenova ideapad with a 15.6 display, will be using the monitor for all my tables (9-16 at peak).

I have owned an Acer and LG both 22", had no problems with either but I preferred the LG.

I'm scared to buy a used monitor but I'm only gonna be here for 6 months..
Thoughts?

Don't buy used, if you're not going to go with new, get one that's refurbished.

if anyone in the uk (promotion might actually be valid in europe as well, not entirely sure) needs a new printer, this has mostly good to very good reviews, is good value, and has a rando promotion that if you get an inkjet multipack with it (fox) you get the base price of two flights to various locations in europe.

Re: ***Official Laptop/Monitor/Computer/Grinding Equipment Discussion Thread***

hi guys!

i want to buy a new pc and i have a few questions (clearly a noob here). i want a very reliable machine which i can use to play up to 20 tables (different sites), HM, TN, VLC, streaming stuff simultaneously. ultimately, its just for poker, but i will inevitably use other applications while playing poker. BTW, it will be connected to a 27 inch LG monitor. There is no cap to my budget (poker is my sole source of income so i dont mind splurging), but I cant imagine that it will be necessary to spend > 2k.

1) should i opt for a desktop over a laptop?

2) XP > windows 7 or vista?

3) what requirements do i need to fulfill in order that i needn't ever worry about lag or other random problems. im willing to go overboard here because i forfitted so much EV due to playing on an unreliable machine for so long. its not merely that i dont want to have problems; i dont want to have to even think about having problems.

4) im in canada now, but in 2 days I will be returning to belgium for another year. should i rush to buy the pc in canada, as opposed to buying one in europe, or having it delivered?

Many thanks in advance for any replies
