Multi-entry tournaments - best way to play them? Multi-entry tournaments - best way to play them?

Is the best way to play these tournaments to use the maximum number of entries possible for each tournament, or just 1 entry?

So for example, you have a multi entry tournament with a maximum of 4 entries. Do you personally take all 4 entries, just 1, or somewhere in between? And why?

2p2 isn't a go-to place to actually talk about poker anymore. i don't understand why, its cool to be a dick or something? who knows. the good news is there are other poker forums where posters are actually helpful. kind of like (i assume) 2p2 was in 2006 (when the first poster who gave you a useless response came here for help) and 2008 (when the 2nd poster who gave you useless responses came here for help).

multi entry mtts are terrible for about 95% of the poker community. its only good for the crushers. most people should probably just skip multi entry mtts.

check the FT of the big multi entry mtts.

One good thing about multi-entrying all at once is the Hands you can get into your HUD, especially at smaller tournaments. If you end up at the final table and you already have min. 50 hands on anybody sitting there, it is an advantage.

Besides that, of course everybody with a good ROI will make double-entries while the -ROI players play less tables in average, making the whole table more reggy.

I don't really care about the reg-fest and play these since FTPs schedule doesn't give you that much options at all. I either play these as Re-Entry or multi-entry them if I don't have enough other tables open.

a true multi re-entry tournaments basically count as separate tournaments each time you re-enter.

and yes it def helps good players and/or competent shortstackers.

theres 2 basic strategies for multi-entry tourneys IMO...
A.) Late reg the tournament in the final few levels depending on structure where you will be joining as a sub 30bb shortstack....and play optimal shortstack strategy dont be afraid to re-steal jam a little lighter etc.

B.) Reg early and play very solid like it is a freezeout...and try to chip up earlier to be able to flip/withstand the deluge of shortstacks near the end of late registration. try to figure out which of your opponents are more willing to gamble because of the re-entry period. learn and understand the dynamics of shortstacks at the end of late reg period and adapt your strategy for each table.

I suppose so, but at least I got a few serious replies after this. :P

I have been skipping them recently but only because I felt like I was at a disadvantage when I took 1 entry vs other players' several entries. So I thought I wasn't playing them optimally.

Nice strategies, but you haven't actually said how many entries is optimal. If there is max 4 entries, do you take all 4? What if there is max 10 entries?

There's no optimal number of entries to play it, actually if you go super hard theory it's probably a mistake to play more than 1 entry (or even more precise: table) because of a chance that your stacks will merge which is -ev for you.

So, if you have room and want to play tougher than regular fo at this buy-in - go for it. Don't skip it just because you can't play max amount of entries.

wait I'm sorry I thought we were discussing tournaments that allowed you to re-enter AFTER busting out....

i take it you are discussing the gimmicky tournaments that allow simultaneous entries....sorry but I have no experience with these. you can ignore my previous post.

Being a US player, I don't actually have experience in them (so I don't know what the fields look like and stuff) but I can say theoretically if you're a winning player, then your ROI will be lower in a multi entry but your overall profit can be higher, and this is because you will lose equity if two of your stacks are merged. It makes it impossible to take two spots on the FT (excluding the last spot.)

Yes, but when your stacks merge, you have more chips than someone who only had 1 stack to begin with. With more entries, it means more chance to build a bigger stack. Or is that wrong?

There is more EV in 2 20bb stacks than in 1 40bb stack. Hence if your stacks merge you lose EV.

Easy as ****.

Say 4 places paid. 4 players left.

50$
30$
20$
10$

so if you had 2 entries you could get 2 places in the payout, meaning 10$+20$ if you just would blind out. Now if you have one big stack you have to get at least 2nd to be on the same spot.

So you're saying just take out 1 entry? How come I see regs take out the max number of entries possible?
