This is my first post so just for some quick bg info, I have been playing MTTs on Merge for the past 6 months now with a decent ROI of 42% playing an average of ~3 buy ins over about 1800 tournaments played. I am certainly looking to elevate my game and take it to the next level and one thing that stands out to me is MTT finish percentages on OPR.

My question is are MTT average finish percentages relevant to how good a player is? I've noticed that a lot of the best players on Merge have MTT average finish percentages along the lines of or very similar to 7/15/43/23/11. My MTT average finish percentages overall look like this 9/24/35/19/13 and for this month 11/29/31/16/13. I play very NIT like in the early stages and still cant emulate these stats, my early middle finish percentage just seems way too high. Although I am sure there are great players who have stats similar to mine is there a certain strategy or something that these players who have 7/15/43/23/11 are playing or I am just over analyzing?

Your final-table scores finishing percentages are way more important than those for all games played. Just don't be the guy folding his way to micro-stacks on final-tables, since too many 7th-9th places result out of that. And all big money is in the top3.

The only three really worthwhile are percentage of cashes, percentage of top3 finishes and percentage of outright wins as so much money is up top

That said, ROI will tell you more than any finishing percentage of field stats will tell you, I know one winning reg with 7% top 10% finishes but his win tournament outright stats is absurdly high as he's a maniac who also attacks relentlessly on bubbles/ft bubbles/applies ICM pressure on FTs.

Is there a site that goes into detail about where a player ends up at the final table percentage wise? I'd be interested in checking that out.

^^You could simply use OPR to get a rough idea of it. They show the finish-distribution from place 1 to 10 (only ITM finishes, though).
If you click "view by size" and "holdem NL", you are able filter +180 players field-size MTT's. Sadly no more options to filter for like 500-1000 or so, though.

Of course, the field-sizes vary a lot, so if you ship some small fields, that doesn't mean that.... yunno what I mean

Despite a higher than average Early and Early/Middle bust-out percentage for me - and hence fewer than average Middle-Late finishes - I do very well with 18 wins, 10 second places, and just 4 3rd places (4th-10th is not 100% accurat, since a few PLO MTT's don't pay ten players, hence why some 6th-9th places are not included in this statistic for me).

Never noticed that OPR showed the breakdown of where I finished at F/Ts. Now I feel better.
