There is something to be said for understanding your opponent. As well as the fact that most MTT' regs probably focus much better on the 1K's, 100R's.

Your focus is up to you. There's nothing says you can't focus in a 150 freezeout. Everything else you've said cuts both ways. You understand them, they understand you. You get to know them, they get to know you.

No one said he is not good.
He is good.
This thread is about variability and people stuck.
My post was about his mother being risk adverse may be a good thing if he wants to use his stash to stake friends in HS MTTs.

I agree with this but I think most Poker Players underestimate how easy it is to remove your self from the poker world and into the real world. At least thats what I have found that for myself over the last 2 years.

Take away the PCA score, where would you be today?

before pca i made a little over 100k in online cash, so if i didnt have the score i wouldnt have started staking people. i prob would have never kept playing tournaments, would have never staked people, and would have grinded away at cash and made a couple hundred k a year. would prob still be in grad school.
i manage my money very well and theres no way i would have been in any financial danger if i hadnt lucksacked a wpt. i mean for christs sake i still live at home, ive made enough to buy a few houses for myself but i havent, i dont have a car of my own, dont own a watch, never play nosebleeds (besides some 200/400 plo when i only had 25% of myself). theres no way id ever be busto i never degen/spend enough money to be. not like im allen kessler either, i dont care when i do spend money on expensive vacations/restaurants/friends etc but i just dont need stuff others do to make me happy.
the point i was making with the stuff about my mom was, given the situation was completely foreign to her, i should not have followed her advice when shes really clueless about backing/poker variance and doesnt understand that my risk of ruin with taking that money out is nill (as i a) am not adding new horses, b) have partners to reduce variance, c) am still a winning player and d) get a lot of rakeback ) but im going to have some variance with it, so instead of understanding it she just dismisses it and tortures/torments me about doing anything with it.

Re: Most makeup/ How long
This thread is making me feel much better about keeping a regular job and playing limited schedule of MTTs. On the other hand, I have to go to the office now (Saturday evening)

I love this post a lot. I play poker because i really like it. I always have been extremely competitive. Played basketball all my life and blew both of my knees out extremely early (I'm turning 21 in July) and now can't do much but shoot around. I decided to push myself really hard in poker because winning a tournament gives me that feeling i used to get when you when basketball games. Those that know me know i have great opportunities when I get out of college but I might choose to be a bum and make a lot less money playing poker because it makes me happy.
Being happy is what life is about anyways right?

Um, forget about that. I'm asking what you would recommend to your average friend/acquaintance with a choice to take a 100K-a-year (starting pay?!) job or to embark on a life of MTT grinding, you'd suggest he try the latter?
