Maybe that's why 80% of Americans don't live in NYC or LA?

Plus you know, you can live WHEREVER THE F YOU WANT when you play poker. Granted I chose to live in a relatively expensive place (Chicago), but you could live in some cheap ass place if you wanted, and most college towns are incredibly cheap cost of living.

And my example was grinding $12/180s for god's sake, play some real tourneys and you'll be making more.

there's really no reason to take time off school to play more poker. last semester i averaged 22 hours a week of poker, during the summer i averaged 14, and now back at school for the last month ive avg'd 19-20 hrs/week. just because you have more free time doesn't mean you'll play more poker, you'll probably just spend it bumming around.

school should be fun--everyone hates classes, just try and get out there and meet people and have a good time doing th standard college things kids do. i've still had PLENTY of time to play poker while living a balanced life at college--partying, going to class (haven't missed a single one yet), working out, getting acceptable grades, etc.

basically what i'm trying to say is you should have a very good reason to drop out. it shouldn't be based on wanting to play more poker or travelling the circuit (the circuit/casinos/live poker suck anyway, WTF would you want to do that for?)
This post is A+.

Everyone saying undergrad is a joke was obviously not engineering.

I have 18 hours this semester and it was likely a mistake. I will probably tone it down next semester.

Period.
sigh, this is what bothers me, i want to graduate and i want to do something besides poker eventually, but right now im really not enjoying waking up at 8am and doing stupid homework.
I had these same feelings when I was 27 with a full time job, I quit, it was probably a mistake. Stay in school, even if it is a lighter course load. Also, take something you think may enjoy more, business is boring yo'.

I was an engineer at UIUC and it was still a joke.

12? Screw that, make it 10 (my avg over 4 years/8 semesters)!

?? 2.5 years of work spread over 4 years = joke curriculum ??

Well... I did come into school with like 30 credit hours or something absurd like that, and somehow managed to take less than the minimum almost every semester I was there.

But still, it's a joke if you know what you're doing I took way harder classes than were actually necessary (for some reason I decided Actuarial Science was a good minor to have?)

As someone who was in kinda the same situation as you awhile back, let me tell you that the best advice I can give is to just take less courses. I took 6 years to graduate and dont regret any of it. I was averaging probably 10 hours a semster for the last 4 mainly because i was so sick of it, but poker certainly played its part.

Get your degree, but make sure its the one you want. Take a bunch of classes that are for different majors, see what you like. Take your time theres no hurry. Most people finish in 5 years now anyway.

I myself am very glad i got my degree, but if i hadnt become a good poker player id be [censored] right now. I just graduated in May with a physics major, math minor decnet gpa, and i cant find a [censored] job. I just had a baby with my girlfriend and she is still in school so we are stuck in Central IL where there are no entry-level physics jobs. If i wasnt making a decent living grinding out MTT's I would be screwed.

And it turns out that after a couple of months of really working hard on my game i have doubled my hourly wage and am making quite a bit more in 20 hours a week than i would at a "real" 40 hour a week job. But still, like you i would like something other than poker one day as well so grad school will always be an option.

?? I realize it isn't LA/NYC, any place in Cali, and hell a lot of other places too, but see how I said "relatively?" Cost of living in Chicago is certainly more than "most" places in the US, maybe not where YOU want to live, but...

lol nope for me, still can if I ever want to. I missed college cause I was in the Army, I also missed working as a glorified janitor at the bowling alley... That said, I'd still not discourage people from finishing school.

good bump, I'm curious how others who made statements like the above are doing.

bet charder regrets that one big time!

I happily finished school while playing a light poker schedule and have been doing poker for over a year now

trying to find something else to do (using my degree) but failing pretty hard due to not knowing what I'm looking for and being lazy

Good bump here imo. I was just starting my senior yr in high school when this thread was made and I wasnt even a 2p2er...just a micro donk playing for fun. Looking forward to hearing some responses

I dropped out of school 2nd semester freshman yr in 2010, and im happy with my decision atm knowing that I can go back if I ever want to.

Helps that I had/have the full support of my family

I dropped out of school myself maybe a month after this thread, regret it a decent amount... Keep thinking about going back, but can never make a decision. I just can't imagine being able to do this forever, but I really can't see myself going back to waking up at 8am everyday. Plus I'd be that old dude at school now, and I don't have any friends who are still in school either...

sigh...

I don't think I ever had a class in college earlier than 11AM, so idk why people worry about that. I'm sure being the old dude would suck, but if you don't want to wake up early, you certainly don't have to.

Yea I rarely had early classes at college also, but I was more talking about getting a real job someday.

College girls are gullible dude.

"Hi ladies, I'm JPOSU, this school was named after me!"
"Wow, wanna be friends?"

and there's tons of "real" jobs which aren't 9-5
