For those out there who consider themselves a tournament regular. What are some ways you've managed your BR in relationship to tournament buy-in's..daily stop loss.

I'm becoming more consistent with cashing, right now my concentration has been making the final table and from there top 3. Through winnings per weeks I wanted to get a idea for some proper shot taking. I usually play between $1-10 tournament entrys but have taken shots at $20-35 and did alright it, no cashing in those but ran deeper than expected so over time I'd like to move to those limits.

For you how did you go about this?

Also seeing it's the new year shortly, what goals did you set back then or currently have?

I don't take that many shots at all

Just keep grinding with a ~ 100 BI BR and you should be fine

I guess taking shots is ok as long as its not too high above your BR, I would only go one level higher.....and find a tourney that suits you well, and one that you feel fairly certain you can still beat.....

Make sure the shots you take are no more than 5% of your role!

they also have massive variance compared to merge/cake. as long as you understand the risk then taking shots is w.e. if you think you can grind back for sure, then you can risk more. i also recommend parlaying winnings into 1ks to maximize profit.

edit to above, im pretty sure kelly says never do more than 2.5%

Eventually I'd like to move to mid stakes but once I double the current bankroll. If this takes a while, that's fine. Not in a rush, just wish to get better and better over time.

SSMTT's, at least the site I play at is real soft. There are some strong regulars in them though. I've watched them on the side to get a feel for moves/how they play out side of when I play them at the table.

I'd like to play more turbo MTT's at my current level, but don't know much strategy for turbos.

For those who are in the US also, what sites offer the best tourny structure. I prefer 12 minute levels...10 min levels are alright but not as big of a fan. Are there any 15 min level tournys for SSMTT grinders?

Without sharing too much... the current BR...at the 10 buy ins that is, percentage wise it's just over 0.5%. Trying to overall figure out what's best over the long run. Haven't decided on a daily stop loss yet, was thinking about stopping after $40. Anyone else have a stop loss set in place?

don't settle yourself losses, just unreg when you feel you play bad, otherwise just play with a 150-200 ABI rule BR for big fields mtts

a 4bi stop loss isnt really conceivable is it? thats like one period of regging then stopping... if you have a 2k roll and play like 8-16 tables with max 10 abi, then a 200-250 stop loss sounds closer.

Only 100 BI roll? That small. I'd say it seems to be fairly common practice for most regs nowadays to have anywhere between 200 and 500 average BI bankrolls. Guess it varies greatly depending on how important your roll is to you (eg full time player or if you use it for bills/living expenses etc).

I wouldn't play mtts with <200 bi, its just comfortable for me and allows me to play more optimally since im not scared $. remember there is alot of variance, 100bi downswings are fairly common place with some field sizes we get these days.

I've actually heard 250-300 if your entire bankroll is in your poker account and you can't afford to top it up. But me, I play mostly for fun so I had a poker budget not a poker bankroll, although my New Years resolution is to turn my hobby into a small second income; guess I'm off to a good start hanging around here

If you're AFS is 1000+ players, I can see ~200, it depends on several things, ROI ITM AFS.....

I was using 100 min BI on ~500 AFS and moved from $1 to $20 BI over about 4 months, I think my biggest downswing was about 30-40.....but that was over like 1500 tourneys.....they say to get an accurate idea of ROI etc, you need close to 5000 tourneys....

The nittier you are w your BR, the better
Be disciplined enough to move down if you need to as well

Right now I have roughly 200+ BI BR, I'd like to at least double this before moving up. Moving down isn't a problem at all.

Variance is understandable, myself personally I nit it up until I have a decent sample size, then I open up considerably. Some will say why, but I see it as dead money and I personally rather accumulate a big stack rather min cashing.

What's AFS?

For cash games, even with a good bankroll I won't move up in stakes simply cause I want to know I can beat that limit...shot taking however I will do to get a feel.

Aside from actual play, how much time do others use studying? I find myself 70/30 70 being actual play. Trying to figure out a good schedule to stick with. The weekends may become my study days, although there's many more 9-5'ers during that time frame or is that giving up way to much value?

TY Brownerrr. AFS for the tourneys I play are usually 100-200, less I play the Sunday 10K which is 900+...the S10K I've cashed in a few times but always mid cashing had some epic bad beats or I may have had a decent chance for the FT.

What size fields do you all play? I assume most play at FT/Stars, unfortunately I can't....yet...

100-200 fields obviously decrease variance greatly. Depending on field strength, you might be hoping for some consistent FTs. Field sizes at PS for example, obviously vary greatly depending on game, BI, start time and guarantee. The largest is the Sunday Storm (30k-40k) and the smallest I play are 50-100 (usually early morning 2x tubro sats. or PLO tourneys).

I have poor BR management but I dont really care. I play for the enjoyment and I find it much more enjoyable to play way higher than my roll allows. For example I am not afraid to play a $30 buy-in with a roll of $100. It's not for everyone but it works for me.

I use to be like that myself, I deposited $50...played cash and ran it up another $100 then over a 10K period went through some terrible variance...so with $60 put up 10 for a PLO tourney and got 4th and from there it's been up hill.

I'm sure this won't last as long as I'd like but I want to give it my best shot.

Sadly the field strength is on average 10 regs and myself.
