oh boy--when I referred to a "measly" 30K, I was being 100% facetious.

We should all be thinking about ways to avoid similar events in the future.

Re: I got mugged for 30k in Australia

taking cabs from casino when carrying cash for one, also when cashing in chips at cage try and be discrete about having loads. i hate when they just shove stacks of 100's in front of you right next to people who are cashing in racks of white chips.

edit:

not that guys cashing in big chips can't be douchebag thieves though

JP,

I don't know if you have renter or homeowner's insurance, but if you do you should file a claim and see if you are covered and recover some money.

I was robbed at gun point 15 years ago and was covered by my renter's insurance at the time.

Did Full Tilt provide travel insurance with their packages? I was under the impression thats what it was for, situations like this? Worth a look I suppose but thats really unfortunate and sorry to hear that. It's only money at the end of the day and the scumbags that steal get their comeuppance in the end.

That sucks, file a police report and tell the hotel staff obv, if you need to stay a couple of extra days I imagine the hotel will help you out in any way possible.

Hopefully it gets worked out, GL.

I wish I had some good advice to impart JP as this really sucks.

Its hard to find a silver lining here but at least you did not get stabbed as this could have been a lot worse if the criminal got scared or decided to make sure you could not chase him or whatever.

Losing 30k really really really sucks but at least you still have your health.

Did you at least get a good look at the guy enough to describe him to a sketch artist (so that maybe they can go back to the casino tapes and try to identify him?) did you get a good enough look at his clothing to try to identify his hoodie etc to the casino personnel so that they can check the tapes?

Make sure you go back to the cage and get a copy of whatever video, report, etc. that you can that shows that you just cashed out $30K. That will document the amount and the police report documents the robbery. Call your insurance company...but document, document. They may very well drop you after this, once they find out that you carry $30K in a hoodie, but it's still worth it.

Re: I got mugged for 30k in Australia

JP,

I'm really really sorry about this.

I've always been really paranoid about things like this. My advice in the future, whenever an option, is to take a check from the casino. It takes ~5 minutes at the cage, but it helps prevent something like this.

I hope your head is okay.

Re: I got mugged for 30k in Australia

BTW, Crown has a TON of cameras. It sounds like someone was watching/following you, which they might be able to discern on tape.

This might not be as hopeless as you think.

Edit: Give me your AIM and we'll talk about my looking into this on your behalf in Australia or however else I can help with the situation.

Yea, like I said before if you think this guy was in the casino you should do your best to remember everything about him to see if they can find him on the tapes.

Is $30,000 a big enough sum to get the American embassy involved? The Australian version of the FBI?

I would think that you would definitely want to get the embassy involved as they should exert pressure upon the Aussies to take care of this.

Man... this really sucks.
