it would obviously be a good PR move if the public reaction deemed it, but I get the vibe that any payment made to JP somehow, in some way, admits some blame in the crime taking place. If there is anyone at fault, it is JP and the state for the rate of crime.

now, all of this is made on the assumption JP wasnt on casino property.

now, if they re-imburse JP because "it will better our image", so long as thats on the table then I think thats cool

but i think im nitpicking over an insignificant issue.

I've walked from one side of the city to the other on multiple occasions past midnight in adelaide. The whole city of serial killers thing is way over-hyped. Given the population and sheer size of the cities I think you're much more liekly to find trouble in melbourne and sydney.

I've seen some nasty things in Adelaide, guy shot in the leg, walked around a corner and saw a guy holding down a girl with her jeans around her ankles with another guy taking his pants off, they bolted and I took the girl to the cop shop. Never seen anything like these things in Melb or Syd. Maybe just bad luck but to me South Australia is for the nut jobs!

So many crazy abos in adelaide late at night, i wont even park in the car park below the cas when i go, alway vallet. Too many gangers hang around the cas, known 2 people to get held at knife point by abo's this year, both with large amounts of cash.

Bad luck dude.

It wouldn't be that great a gesture/PR move. They would essentially be giving JP OSU money for not being responsible about it in the first place. It would also just show that the Crown and FTP are suckers and encourage other people to report that they lost money in the hopes that they get the same treatment.

Nothing to JP OSU but carrying 30k around with you in an area you don't know too well isn't very responsible. It sucks and I wouldn't wish this happening to anyone but there were ways to avoid this. Maybe 30k isn't a significant dent in your bankroll but you should probably consider whether someone else is willing to kill/rob you over that kind of money. At the very least you should have asked for a security escort.

He is still a naive yank though. That mcdonalds is quite a dangerous place to be at night. No different then walking outside the motor city casino with 30k at night. Just dumb.

Dude, you forgotten already about the stripper, her girlfriend and the bikie dude from the King St Barcode incident, when he bashed the stripper and kicked her in the head when she was down, assaulted the girlfriend, then shot and murdered the lawyer Brendan Keilar who went to help the girl? That was like just 6 months ago.

Bit by bit, Melbourne is deteriorating.

Re: I got mugged for 30k in Australia

I get nervous walking through my safe town with under $1000 even if no one else knows i have it. Seems pretty insane for a large guy who attracts a lot of attention to get so much money and walk through shady bits of town. Maybe it will be a lesson learned for all poker players.

Yeah that was some pretty crazy stuff, a real one off! (I hope) I think that guy was from New South Wales. I hear the Dutch kid that also got shoot is still pretty messed up, the Stripper was cute.

This city is going down hill but next to alot of the places in the world we are very decent. It's the drugs it's that simple a scum of the earth theif becomes a psychotic killer on the gear!

Re: I got mugged for 30k in Australia

I once cashed out $4k at crown and had a 20 metre walk to my car in the vegas room car park and even that made me look over my shoulder a few times before getting into and locking my car.

Most of the high stakes players at crown are aware of these kinds of dangers and most will never walk out with more than a couple of grand on them and usually in chips, not cash. I'm interested to know if anyone at the crown cash booth said anything to jp when cashing out for $30k cash.

I'm not sure if its something ive noticed over time or whether i saw it straight away but there are quite a few dodgey people in the poker basement at crown and more than a few keen viewers when high stakes players are cashing out. When surrounded by thousands of gamblers, some of which have huge addiction problems and financial issues, it's probably safe to assume this is one place you dont want to have $30k cash on you walking the dark streets at 4am.

It's a real shame to see it happen to a young guy who had just had such a great tourney success, but its a harsh lesson to learn and im sure it was better to walk away from it than being in a hospital with knife wounds.

Best of luck with the whole situation jp and hope this doesnt deter you from coming back to melbourne.
