So lately I have enjoyed tonkaaaa`s YT highlights and I think he is the most skilled MTT player on twitch by far (except Doug Polk) right?
My question is how great is he? Top 1000 top 100 or top 10 online MTT player? I know it is super har to know due to variance and everything but I just wonder how great he is. I enjoy watching his stream video highlights on YT. He seems to give a ton of strategy and thought process in most hands he says probably almost everything that goes through his mind. Is it recommended to watch his stream for study? Way more entertaining than most training vids for sure

Tonkaaaa is definitely one of the best mtt players out there. He is currently ranked #53 in the world. However, with some players not registered or choosing not to be ranked, these rankings are not totally accurate but are still a decent reflection of the mtt player pool. They can also be more a function of volume as opposed to raw ability. But make no mistake, it is extremely difficult to crack that top 100 and he was ranked as high as 11th just a couple of months ago.

His ability to play at such a high level while streaming cards up coverage is impressive for sure. This is especially true when there are so many regs watching him play on delay while sitting at his table. Continuously having to adapt your game knowing that they know you bluffed the last couple of hands for example. Definitely a top reg who is well ahead of the curve.

You will certainly learn important concepts from watching his stream but a lot of experience, understanding game flow dynamics and grounding in solid fundamentals is necessary before attempting to emulate his style. It's great how he explains his thought process during hands though. Really shows the complexity of decision making in every spot of mtt play.

Thanks a lot Yeah him constantly saying his entire thought process out loud seems really GTO to listen to. It certainly puts you on the right track of what to think of and consider when playing. He is also super fast at talking and it is very entertaining so he is better than most training vids that can be super slow in comparison although he might not go just as deep evaluating each hand. Also he is just a better player than most so that is great. You will also constantly see a ton of shoving and reshoving spots and knowing he always picks profitable spots to do that it is something you can "copy". So shoving and reshoving ranges will get memorized the more you watch. Not sure how many of the pros at his table bother watching his stream though. they probably have more than enough with focusing on their own tables and tonkaaaa is just so good at adjusting to each opponent and mixing it up + stay balanced i don`t think they would get much out of it.

The kid used to annoy me a bunch and I wouldn't have thought in a million years he'd be one to become so successful at twitching, but I gotta say I've gained a lot of respect for him, sure isn't an easy stunt to pull off.

He's always been one of the best turbo players and probably average (in the context of mid-hs mtt regs) at non-turbos.

To answer your question I'd say something like

top 100 everyday mtt regs
top 1000 including everyone who only bothers to play the big stuff / cash game bosses etc

Also seems to be able to maintain his level of play despite twitching at the same time which sure is really tough.

Guy is an arrogant prick but yeah good at poker.

He's a really good thinking player who also has the ability to explain what he's doing, as he's doing it.

Makes for a really fun stream, whether he's winning or losing.

I don't get the accusations of arrogance - he knows he's good, but doesn't boast about it. There's a matter-of-fact nature when he's comparing himself to other players in the context of hands in play, but that's part of being a good player. He doesn't sit there and talk trash about players just for the sake of doing so - it's always in the correct context.

All of this, combined with the genuine FUN you feel watching his stream (trash talking Conner, having a few drinks on some nights, etc, etc), and he gets a big thumbs up from me...

Again, just my $0.02, and usually I get a bit of change back...

hes the only player that i can watch without tilting my balls off, can actually learn usefull stuff from him, every other streamer on twitch is just a step back from my personal understanding (the high view players atleast) and i find it detrimental to watch people like jcarvs play hs nlhe.

Is very high to Rank a player with a number, but I do feel that he can play any MTT online being at least break even.

If anything, the only complain I could have is that from time to time he just run insanely hot. Of course it could be that on highlights we only see deep runs, couldn't say as I don't watch twitch that much.

Ye tonkas quite watchable and doesn't hold back on his thought process. While WCG is clearly the strongest poker player on twitch he gives zero reasoning for any of his plays which makes it feel quite dumb downed for viewers who can spell poker.
