if these details are correct and he didn't pay you back, he'd certainly stand to lose much more than $23k in future EV by ruining his reputation and he's good enough at poker that it would be burning a pretty sick bridge for him (to the entire poker community). unless he's picked up a pit game habit, my guess is he's just going through a rough patch and will figure things out soon.

Write it off Tom, you're a baller. This was an expensive lesson, but well worth it. I'm sure you accounted for this being a large possibility before you got into backing.
