I'm appreciative of hearing a different sound from RHCP than I was previously familiar with, so I found a walrus point or two just for being creative (despite also drawing from the artist that sheeped) and this has sort of a pleasant tune to it, but it's nothing special. Seems to just be a fluff song without a lot to carry it along or get me too interested.

I can appreciate Henrik going the punk route here - I enjoy a fair bit of punk - but it's a genre heavily dependent on its melodies, and this one is just okay. Unlike some yet-to-be-revealed songs in this category, this one's rating dropped as the song went on rather than going in the right direction; it just didn't feel like it went anywhere, and lost me way too quickly.

This just doesn't do a lot for me. It's okay, it certainly isn't actively bad, and the chorus is half-decent, but I can't grab hold of any part of the song and say that I like any of it all that well. And I do definitely like some Animals stuff. Shrug.

As drug music goes, this had more going for it musically than the Velvet Underground song IMO. Again not exactly my style, but it has a pretty good sound, it's lyrically creative, and I think it's a half-decent entry here.

Eh, as I said my hopes were not too high for this one. I was also trying to find something that LKJ might not have listened to before, so I eliminated some very good songs for this reason.

Jabonator with Suck My Kiss by Red Hot Chili Peppers

I've long known this one, and it's definitely fun. Something feels slightly obvious about it as a walrus selection, so it maybe loses some points or at least some tiebreakers, but it still rates pretty well since I hadn't heard it in a decent while and it's a good, catchy song.

I'm definitely a sucker for this style of song, and overall I liked this entry. It sort of lost steam after the first chorus and I was ready to be done with it by the end, which makes me feel (before I've gotten a lot more listens in) like it's kind of ordinary within its genre, but I still thought it was catchy and decent. Thought for sure it would land somewhere in the top 10 upon first judging, but enough good entries came up to keep pushing it down.

It's weird to me that RHCP sheeped. I quite like RHCP but I think of them as a bit passe given they've been putting out similar sounding stuff for 25 years now. That fits with the Walrus of the People theme I guess, but I also would have bet on LKJ not particularly liking them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWNDW5KtiKk

Alright, this entry brings the RHCP portion of our show tonight to an end; it does win the honor of being the best overall submission of a Chili Peppers song. Suck My Kiss has the more accessible and catchy tune obviously, but the lyrics of this one, if taken as a struggle with life, are nicely penned and I enjoyed it as a first-time experience. Of all of the RHCP songs submitted tonight, this is one I can easily see myself going back to and having it maybe grow on me even more.

Good stuff. Had to study the lyrics a bit to get the point of what he was getting at, but I definitely appreciated it once I did. Musically, it's decent. Good enough when supported by solid lyrics.

Really like the opening guitar riff. The Stones often elicit something of a shrug from me, but this is a likable song with a good sound. Doesn't really manage to set itself apart at all the way that songs in my top 10 did, but a solid entry.

Yeah, just not much for RHCP. I did at least put it above Suck My Kiss because I thought it was a better walrus entry and as I said, has potential to grow on me. It maybe could have gone a spot or two higher, but it wouldn't have ever gone a ton higher.

Angsty "we're falling apart" lyrics are bland and incredibly generic. Melody isn't catchy. But at least it's really repetitious. Feels like a song that could be a good guilty pleasure if it was…good. Or pleasurable. But unfortunately no such luck.
SOS is a great guilty pleasure, but def not near the top of ABBA songs imo (guessing a ton of them top 10'd tho)

master3004 with Somebody to Love by Queen

I love this song. I'm definitely a Queen fan with endless appreciation for Freddie Mercury. As a song choice, it feels too obvious (charted top 5 in the UK and I was surprised it fell short of top 10 here, but it peaked at 13) and I have to keep it below the tier of inspired choices that I was experiencing for the first time, but if this song was new to me then certainly it would have placed even higher.

Oh and also I look forward to how furious Nick will be at placing just underneath a Queen song, but I promise that it was pure coincidence that it was ranked that way.

A few years ago a friend and I ranked every Queen song off their Platinum Hits III album, and Somebody to Love was #1, rest of the top 5 was We Are The Champions, I Want To Break Free, Killer Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody. I'd change that order now, but I think I'd still have Somebody to Love at the top. Have you ever seen the George Michael version at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert?
