In ninth,

Spoiler:
KarmaDope with Hacktivist - Buszy

Spoiler:
oh my… yeah sorry, but that’s not for me

Quote:
"The band's music has been described as rap metal[8][9] and grime,[9] as fusing djent and nu metal,[8][10] or more generally as adding rapping to djent."
while looking up the band i learned a new word (djent) so i guess it’s not a complete bust. if rap metal sounds appealing to you, you should definitely click on the link. if not, do at your own risk.

In eighth,

Spoiler:
Zaccino with Noname - Yesterday

Spoiler:
this just doesn't work for me. to my ear the beat and the rapping don't really match. i do quite like the chorus, though.

In seventh,

Spoiler:
RAORoman with NAO - We Don't Give A

Spoiler:
i had high hopes at the start of the song but i lost interest pretty quickly and that doesn't change on repeat listens.

i think you sat out this category. well done

In sixth,

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
when i see that song in my list i always ask myself „wait, what was that again?“. i remember when i listen to it but a minute later it’s gone again. don’t get me wrong, this is a nice song. but ultimately pretty forgettable to me

In fifth,

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
so some math rock (is it? I suck at genres). this i actually really cool. do i really want to listen to more of this? probably not, at least not very often. i do appreciate the submission, though.

In fourth,

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
i like that sitar. that is a sitar, right? anyway, enjoyed it the first time and it has gotten better with every listen. if i had listened to it without any information i definitely would have placed it in a different time period.

In third,

Spoiler:
JMurder3 with Whitney - No Woman

Spoiler:
the only song of the submissions i knew before. 'light upon a lake' was one of my most listened records of the year. i would have picked a different song but i like this one, too... obviously.

every time i reveal a walrus category i realize that i have a hard time writing about music outside of 'i like it', 'meh' and 'i don't like it'. so apologies if you are here for witty write-ups.

In second,

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
this one really sucked me in. the alternating between spoken and sung parts is interesting and the six minutes just flew by. also grew with each listen and gained a few spots over time.

In first,

Spoiler:
surprise, surprise... for once nick found a song somebody likes

it wasn't even close to be honest. this had won the category one minute into the first listen. the background 'everybody wants to love you's are fantastic and have been stuck in my head for a week. the guitar solo is cool, too

oh wait. the video says dec 2015. nevermind then. btw, i didn't check the category fit of your submissions. so if you submitted something older, newer or not from a debut album: congratulations, you got away with it.
I considered submitting something from that album actually.

ty, soma, for the reveal (and glad you liked the Throws's track).

The way I did the scoring re sitting out was to give the people below the person sitting out an extra point each (so scoring as if the sitter-out hadn't submitted). soma's just removed the sitter-out's score. I don't think it makes much difference, but for consistency either KD and Zacc should get an extra point from soma or JM3 should lose a point from me.

If there's one thing I've noticed about this Walrus, it's that JM3 has too many points.

I've been pretty busy/distracted with 'other things' on the site, but I can reveal tomorrow or maybe early Friday (before 1pm or so).
Other than that I won't be able to reveal till any night next week after 5pm.

whoops, didn't think about that. you're right, we should definitely have consistency in handling that. i have no preference for one of the two choices

So all of the 14s become 13s. Luckily it's only Nick himself affected by this (more or less).

and

tchaz can't read

This doesn't say anything about the points for top 3 - except for sitout songs falling in the top 3 - which didn't occur.
