Bon Iver is incredibly hit or miss for me. Some of his songs are really pleasant to listen to, and some of them are just mind-numbingly dull. This is one of the latter.
Starting to think Fable's Cat 1 pick was just a fluke. This song is boring for the first 2/3rds and then gets edgy. Her voice is always just on the precipice of being off-key and it's pretty obnoxious.
God, what a tease. First 2 minutes of this are absolutely stellar before the vocals come in and wreck everything. Rest of the instrumental is just OK tbh. Gimme 12 minutes of that violin and this podiums.
It's a Bjork track in which I don't actually like how Bjork sounds. Not a strong start. The rest of the song is just OK. Some weird stuff going on with the background percussion.
Some cool sounds but it gets a bit grating after a while. Electronic music has to hit a very specific niche to really resonate with me, and this isn't quite there.
Pleasant enough but doesn't ever go anywhere. Vocals are ok but just a little bit off. Strings are the best part of the song, which is decent given the category.
Something about this is just... weirdly discordant. I've heard and greatly enjoyed Amy Winehouse before but this one just... doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's Amy herself on this one. Or maybe everything's just clashing. Idk.
This works better as an instrumental, I think. The sax and trumpet are obviously the best parts of this. Everything else is somewhere between mediocre and subpar. This feels about right for it.
A classic. One I was never a SUPER huge fan of. I actually like the verses a lot more than the chorus - the chorus is just kind of obnoxious. Good rapping though.
Strings and trumpets, as per usual, are the strongest component of the song. Weird comment but I think the time signature works really well for the style of the song on this one. Decent pick. Can't decide whether or not I like her voice.
Didn't think I'd like this one at first, but the vocal style grew on me. Fan of the general atmosphere of this piece. Lyrics caught my ear, too - pretty fun song.
Worked surprisingly well for me despite being a slower, more introspective piece. The girl's voice is really nice, and the instrumentation is pretty neat. Not super exciting but it doesn't have to be.
Weak start - Sufjan's voice doesn't really carry for me, and the guitar isn't enough to counterbalance. Becomes a lot more intriguing when the rest of the instruments arrive. Surprisingly high scoring.
Strong start but rapidly gets pretty damn Sufjany. Drags a bit as a consequence of being 6 minutes but does enough cool things in between to bump it higher than the other Sufjan song, lol.
Gramatik songs always have a tendency to feel just a little bit incomplete, and that's what holds this back from getting a higher score. But this is a damn funky beat, and I dig it. Just shy of being a really good track.
Well, it's definitely got horns. And they're definitely doing some ****ing work. Always down to hear a good old-fashioned brass ensemble going hard. Strong hook, too.
Loving the somewhat frantic pace of this piece. Feel like I've probably heard it before, but I'm not 100% confident in that. I like classical pieces to have a bit of intensity to them, and this fits that pretty damn well.
Strong backing beat, and I really like the delivery. Might like this a bit more if the rapping was a bit faster? Not sure. But as it is, it's a really good track. Welcome to the top 10, friend.
