Welcome everyone to the game thread for the Ultimate Game of Mafia Champions!

About a year ago, this whole thing began. A worldwide internet mafia championship series.

We've been through 4 qualifying games. Featuring more than 100 players. From more than 45 different mafia communities.

Each community selected one or more champions to represent them in this epic championship. After each game, the champions themselves voted on who should be granted the honor of gaining entry to this game: The finale, the final event, the culmination. 6 people from each game qualified, giving us a total of 24 players.

Now the question is... Who will earn the title of The World's Best Internet Mafia Player?

Besides winning a prestigious title, the "winner" will also get an exclusive private chat with the creator of mafia himself: Dmitry Davidoff!

The first four qualifying games:

#1 Game of Mafia Champions
#2 Game of Mafia Champions
#3 Game of Mafia Champions
#4 Game of Mafia Champions

Rules for the Champions Game
  • Only post / talk about the game in this thread. Don't PM other players. Don't post anything about the game in other threads or on other forums. Except for the evil team (or any masonries that might exist). They can chat privately at any time.
  • Don't edit your posts. The idea is everybody gets to see the same information in the thread. You are allowed to link to images, videos, etc., but don't change them. Again, everybody gets the same information in the thread.
  • Don't try to use the form of your role PM. So a screenshot of your role PM would be cheating. As would discussing the time stamp of your PM.
  • When the thread is open and the moderator has announced DAY you can post in it. But only as long as you are a live player. No dead posts, please.
  • Vote by bolding a name. To change votes just bold a different name, or unvote. Vote counts will show how much time remains in the day. Votes in the final minute (:00) of day will count. :01 votes won't be counted.
  • Breadcrumbing is allowed. Unbreakable codes or code links + private keys or any stuff resembling that is NOT allowed. So as an example, this is disallowed.
  • This is a game of lying. Players are expected to lie. No statement or promise a player makes within the game has any force outside the game. As an example, a bet offered in a game is not something you can collect if you win.
  • If we believe you to be intentionally angleshooting (bending the rules intentionally in a way that clearly goes against the spirit of the rule and the game), then that would also be grounds for modkill. Do not try to get fancy or angly with the rules, please.
  • Changing your avatar or your location AFTER having received your role PM is NOT allowed.
  • There is no majority lynch in this game. That is, each day always ends at the scheduled time.
  • If you have any questions about rules, send a PM to this account. We'd be happy to help. You should not be asking the mod questions in the thread.

And for completeness' sake, here is once again a link to the standard game rules for this forum.

IT IS STILL NIGHT! PLEASE DO NOT POST.

List of roles which could be in the game:

Every player will have one of the following roles. Most players will be vanilla. Many of the other roles can target one player at night to perform an action. If a role is stackable, it means that a player can have that power in addition to another role. There is no limit to how many of the stackable roles one player may have.
  • Affiliation Cop - Learns the affiliation of the target, but not role.
  • Bodyguard - If his target is targeted for death, and the death of the player is not prevented/absorbed by any ability, the Bodyguard will die in place of his target. If his target is targeted by multiple kills, then both he and the target will die.
  • Decoy - May have a fake night action that will be viewed by watchers/trackers and/or may peek as a power role that he is not
  • Doctor - Target is protected from death at night, even if targeted by multiple kills.
  • Full Cop - Learns role and affiliation of target.
  • Hunter - Chooses a player at night and that player will die if the Hunter dies that night or the following day.
  • Isolator. Mafia-only. Target will be isolated and all town night actions targeting that player will be voided.
  • Jailkeeper - Target is both roleblocked and protected from kills, even if targeted by multiple kills. A jailkeeper can be roleblocked, but if a jailkeeper and roleblocker target each other, the jailkeeper wins.
  • Janitor. Mafia only. If target dies, the role will not be revealed publicly, but only revealed to the Janitor himself.
  • Lovers- Two players of the same affiliation who know each others identities and can chat together 24/7, and who both die when one dies.
  • Masons - Two players of the same alignment who can chat together 24/7.
  • Monitor - will receive a copy (BCC) of game messages received by his target (e.g. peek, track, watch results) - also if target dies that night.
  • Oracle - Choose a player every night, whose role will be made public in the thread if the Oracle dies that night or the following day.
  • Redirector - The player submits two names, and redirects Player X's action to Player Y.
  • Roleblocker - Night abilities of target will be voided. This night action can be roleblocked by another roleblocker.
  • Role Cop - Learns the role of the target, but not affiliation.
  • Tough guy - a player with two lives or able to dodge death ONCE in some other way
  • Tracker - Learns who the target targeted, but not the action.
  • Vanilla - No powers.
  • Vigilante - Kills the target.
  • Voyeur - Learns what action was done to the target, but not by whom.
  • Watcher - Learns who targeted the target, but not the action.

Notes:
  • There can be various types of restrictions to abilities. Only X times in the game, only even, odd or specific nights, cannot self target, cannot target the same player on consecutive nights, only works vs specific players/affiliations, etc.
  • It is possible a single player has multiple or a combination of powers, like e.g. a Jack-Of-All-Trades.
  • Small tricks and subtle variations are possible, but will not be really outside the range of the abovementioned roles/powers.

More on lynch rules:
  • There is no majority lynch in this game. That is, each day always ends at the scheduled time.
Tie votes:

In the event of a tie vote, there will be a sort of "coin flip" to determine the outcome. Specifically, post ID will be the determining factor. Click here for an in depth explanation.

Some tips to make the forum easier to use:

Sometimes you want to read a single player. Here are 2 ways to do it.

From the forum page, click the number next to the thread title (488 here). This brings up a window called "Who Posted". From there click the number next to a poster to see their posts in the search page.

OR From within the thread, click search this thread at the top, then advanced search.

This brings up a window where you can enter a poster name and / or keywords.

Here is a sample search result. Click the title within a post to go to that post.

Use my twoplustwo / Edit Options to change the look & feel of the forum.

There you may want to make yourself invisible. This means your name doesn't appear at the bottom of the forum page while you are reading. Almost all the regular players here use invisible.

Change your posts/page from the default 15 to a number that suits you.

Tell the forum your timezone.

Maybe try different colors.

Don't forget to click Save Changes.

---

There is a twoplustwo app for phones that is like tapatalk.

---

Also note that each vote count has more info than just votes:
  • The number in (99) is how many times that player has posted.
  • You can click the names to go to the post with the vote.
  • It shows you how much time remains in the day.

---

Finally, for spectators from other forums... Register an account so you can set posts per page, colors / timezone, and use the phone app. It makes for much easier reading.

STILL NIGHT, YO.

#1 Player: AngryPidgeon

Username for this game: AngryPidgeon

Representing: mafiascum

Started playing in: 2010

Qualifications:
In 2013 AngryPidgeon was nominated on his site for the following awards: Best Mafia Catcher, Most Cunning Manipulator and Rising Star (the trifecta!).

AngryPidgeon advanced to this game by winning the award for Mafia MVP in Game 1 in addition to finishing 4th in the vote for Best Player.

Bio:
"I play with my gut and critically think about individual thoughts or actions that rub me wrong. I play pretty aggressive as I get into the game and feel I'm not doing my best if people aren't sheeping me."

#2 Player: Arcbell

Username for this game: Arcbell

Representing: EpicMafia

Started playing in: 2013

Qualifications:
EpicMafia doesn't have any annual awards, but Arcbell is consistently named as one of the top current (non-cheating) mafia players by EpicMafia's most highly decorated players.

He only joined EpicMafia in June 2013, but since then he quickly became an administrator, earned a bronze trophy and founded a "mafia clan" with a dozen members that earned about as many trophies.

Arcbell advanced to this game by winning the award for Best Player in Game 3 as well as earning 2nd place in the vote for Mafia MVP.

Bio:
"I'm not an aggressive player. I will win by creative application of logic and reads. Or maybe I won't. I'll consider any strategy that will win this game... You'll probably find yourself going along with it too!"

#3 Player: Avin

Username for this game: Athexx

Representing: BoardGameGeek

Started playing in: 2007

Qualifications:
Consensus on BoardGameGeek is that Athexx is the number 1 player. This is substantiated by his many Wolfy Awards: Player of the Year (2010), Player of the Year (2011), Best Performance as an Outed Evil (2010), Best Performance as an Auxiliary Evil (2010), Best Performance as a Good Special (2011). He has been less active recently, but still was nominated for Best Performance as a Villager and Best Performance as a Max Evil for the 2012 awards.

With more than 200 games under his belt, Athexx is one of the most experienced players in the field.

Athexx is a wildcard entry from Game 1.

Bio:
"I approach the game as I approach life: I make quick decisions, choose who to trust, and stick with my gut after having considered a reasoned analysis of the situation."

#4 Player: corycurren

Username for this game: corycurren

Representing: WalterFootball

Started playing in: 2009 (IRL mafia), 2013 (forum mafia)

Qualifications:
corycurren is widely regarded as one of the most talented players from WalterFootball. Despite only having played for little over a year, he was ranked the third best player in the latest mafia rankings on WalterFootball. He can also boast never having been mislynched.

corycurren advanced to this game as a wildcard pick from Game 4 where he finished 5th in the vote for Best Player.

Bio:
"I am a thought process player and a YOLO patriarch."

#5 Player: Crunkus

Username for this game: Crunkus

Representing: Play Diplomacy

Started playing in: 2009

Qualifications:
Crunkus was decided on as Play Diplomacy's champion for the 3rd qualifying Champions game through a public vote.

This came as no surprise given his history: At the very first mafia awards show ever hosted on Play Diplomacy, Crunkus ran away with the two big ones: The 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the award for Best Overall Player.

Crunkus advanced from Game 3 by finishing 4th in the vote for Best Player.

Bio:
"Expect me to ask plenty of questions, and to try to understand the process behind what you do and say. Expect me to be transparent about my own process so that you have the opportunity to do the same. I'm here to enjoy myself just like everyone else, but expect me to play mafia."

#6 Player: dbmurph22

Username for this game: dbmurph22

Representing: BoardGameGeek

Started playing in: 2005

Qualifications:
dbmurph22 is likely the most experienced player in the entire line-up having astonishingly played more than 250 games and modded about 50.

This experience has also translated to recognition on his home site where he has previously been nominated for Player of the Year (2012).

dbmurph22 advanced to this game on account of earning 4th place in the Best Player award category in Game 2.

Bio:
“I strive to make a game for me and others, a fun, competitive, unnerving, and original experience. I always strive for a fresh approach to the game, but I still like tried and true principles. I tend to be balanced in regards to employing psychology and strategy. And sorcery of course. I enjoy handmade mint chocolate chip milkshakes.”

#7 Player: DWetzel

Username for this game: DWetzel

Representing: Puzzles and Other Games

Started playing in: 2012

Qualifications:
DWetzel started out playing mafia on hattrick.org and then moved on to greener pastures here on 2+2 where he quickly established himself as a rising star.

He was drafted in the early second round of the most recent 2+2 mafia draft where he had the honor of being (by a significant margin) the highest pick out of anyone with less than 2 years of experience. He is, in other words, the hottest new chick on the block.

DWetzel advanced to this game by tying for the Town MVP award in Game 4.

Bio:
"I think I'm a pretty analytical player (which often means I suck early on when there's not a lot to go on). I try to be a very villagery wolf and an even more villagery villager, so if you don't think I sound villagery it's more than likely your fault and not mine."

#8 Player: jcohen

Username for this game: jcohen

Representing: Part Time Poker

Started playing in: 2008

Qualifications:
Though Part Time Poker doesn't do awards, jcohen was nearly unanimously listed as number 1 on people's lists when a thread was created asking people to list the top 10 players.

He's also enjoyed immense success on 2+2 where he had the best turbo stats in 2013 out of people with 10+ games played. He followed up on this success by placing both second and fourth in a turbo series that was run back in April (you could re-enter after having played 10 games with a new batch of 10 games).

jcohen advanced to this game as a wildcard pick from Game 4 where he finished 3rd in the vote for Best Player as well as in the vote for Town MVP.

Bio:
"I care about the game and I want to win. I have strong opinions about how the game should be played which are often fairly contrarian. I believe you can't be confident in your reads until you've reread things. I thrive when the game becomes most strategical, and so I consider my biggest strength to be that I dominate endgames."

#9 Player: lenC

Username for this game: lenC

Representing: PokkeriProd

Started playing in: 2009

Qualifications:
As lenC puts it himself:

“We are not the hand-holding award-giving type, just a bunch of Estonians battling it out. I suppose my only accolade is being voted to represent the great forum of Pokkeriprod.com in this glorious event.”

lenC advanced to this game as a wildcard pick from Game 2 where he finished second in the vote for Mafia MVP.

Bio:
“Wanting. It. More.”

Luckbox Inc advanced to this game by tying for the Town MVP award in Game 4.

Bio:
"Tone Toan taon! I'm a super wolfy villager. I refuse to explain my reads because it's almost always tone and you either understand that or you don't and likely never will. If I don't find a wolf on D1 don't expect me to be useful till the endgame, where I POE the crap outta wolves. Also, meta."

#12 Player: merk

Username for this game: merk_sa

Representing: Something Awful

Started playing in: 2009

Qualifications:
merk_sa was chosen through a public vote in which he received the most support to represent Something Awful in the 3rd qualifying game. He is one of the more experienced players in the field, having played almost 170 games.

merk_sa advanced to this game by winning the award for Mafia MVP in Game 3.

Bio:
"I originally joined Something Awful mafia to improve my persuasive writing and argument-forming skills for law school. As an engineer, I felt like other kids had an advantage over me because I spent my education and then-career solving problems rather than forming arguments and convincing others of the same. Mafia truly improved my academic pursuits and my current professional career.

Regarding interesting strategies of mine: I will always vote for claimed non-Town players unless it is clear that doing so would be win-condition limiting in the very short term. I have many play styles because I like to switch it up as often as possible to evolve my game. In short, I'm constantly trying to find new ways to be persuasive."

Bio:
"Many skilled players tend to use a very logical, consistent and calculating approach to things - my strengths are in not playing the game but playing the players, albeit this is mostly applicable when I can privately communicate to them."

Username for this game: Phelanpt

Representing: BoardGameGeek

Started playing in: 2008

Phelanpt advanced to this game by winning the "Most feared by mafia" award in Game 4.

Bio:
"I stand by a mix of tone reads and logic. Neither of those by itself gives me good results, so I'm somewhere in between. Also, I never fake emotions."

Bio:
"I'm a dedicated, passionate and competitive person with very high expectations of myself in whatever I do, most certainly including mafia. As town, I pride myself on being able to clear both myself and fellow townies with a very high degree of success. As mafia, I pride myself on being able to infuse my fellow mafia members with a winner's mentality so that we can collectively stomp the town with power play - I will even go so far as to make a werewolf-themed (that's what we call mafia around these parts) song."

“I started playing mafia games on this site (TMF) in 2012. The concept immediately appealed to me, because lying is fun, and exposing someone else's lies is even more fun. I started to take mafia games more seriously because one of my peers told me that there's no such thing as a skilled mafia player. I wanted to prove to myself that this wasn't true. If I have a strength, it's that I get obsessed with games and refuse to give up.”

I believe in the soul, the ****, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the FPS night kill, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Askthepizzaguy acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing opening the thread early on d1. Bio:
“I am an excellent analytic town player, especially when I can be as objective as possible. As mafia, my strengths lie in making townies lose objectivity and creating unproductive thread environments. However, my play varies as any alignment and that's just what I'm good at doing.”

TommyDanger, you have my metavote until you impress me with one of your classic intros.

Just a heads up today and wednesday will be awkward for me in terms of participation as those are my last two working days of the year which also involve wonky sleeping patterns. (I'm going to bed right now) but I will do my best to give a solid effort in the short windows between waking up and heading to work.

I like toast.

Would it be angleshooting if I posted a picture of my erection and commented that I only get sexually aroused as a villager?

It's funny. I actually got a little nervous about what my OP should be. I don't even know why, but I felt that twinge of not wanting to disappoint. I want MVP. I'll wrestle you for it.

Given all other champs games ended in mafia wins we are going to change the pace and form a town core on D1. We have a bunch of high performing POGgers in this game so it should be doable.

People who are stupid or tread their own path as a rule should probably **** along as I don't have time for your nonsense.
