Hurts - Help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glhJGHYuts0
This song has some nice elements I like. There are parts where the vocals are pretty striking (in the first half), and the song feels like it's well mixed. It is a bit cliched, but put together decently. I'm not a fan of that little chorus thing it has going on, though.
This song has some interesting stuff going on in it. I don't think I like the constant organ backdrop to the song (well it drops out at one point for I guess a short bridge). I like the way the guitar and drums work together, but that sound gets a little polluted. Vocals are also on the solid side.
So Sting went with a more smoothish jazz sound post police. One thing you can pretty much count on with his music is it has high production values and is very polished. This song is on the commercial side, but certainly well done.
I definitely agree that the drops are the strongest part of this song. Vocals are pretty good, and I like the arrangement. Don't really know what else to say, good song!
OK, this is just an incredibly fun song. I really love the energy and sound. The top four are all really strong. Here are the google translated lyrics if anyone is interested:
Quote:
We may well have some fun
joke a little and have fun
nix pix, not that kind of tricks
not a chance, not a chance
laugh with capital letters, you do anywhere else
Oh my God
someone single little time we have fun
nix pix, just politix
You have a responsibility
yes, though who does not
but you moron would promptly ask for more
no no no no
okay okay okay okay
no no no no
okay okay okay okay
Nothing I can stand
it's just something I do
open mouth and out comes something stupid
bull**** you're crammed with Kack
although you can turn off
you can keep it in check
but jesus christ
stop English Swedish sounds poo
sad sure, stop again, which rhymed you last
okay not be cheap
but do not act just over
or too difficult to easily correct
I have to throw up
I have high hopes that this is all a troll and the rankings will get flipped at the end. This is only 40% of me being a narcissist and 60% Teen Age Riot getting 9th.
This song feels written for this category. The rhythm and vocal cadence and meter are top notch.
Quote:
Spread ya rumors, kick all ya li'l dumb ****
Tell lies, laugh 'bout the time that I'm gon' get
If it make you feel better, picture me over and done with
Punk bitch, come with all the gossip you can come with
Small thang to a giant, I can overcome this
Note to tchaz - would really have been ok with the Curtis Mayfield song of the same name? It is dramatically different, and as much as I like Curtis Mayfield, this one is far superior.
So this is just a fantastic song. I have no clue when this was made (yet), but I really love every aspect of it. It keeps up the awesome all the way through.
So first off (CONTROVERSY!), this is not the version he linked. This is the version I added to my spotify list (might have been the only one I saw) when I made it, and I love this version too much to not use it. This song gets a high bounce rating. I sit on a yoga ball at work (which is awesome by the way) and I couldn't help bouncing along to this song.
FTR, the submitted version was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9NG7-lgRlQ which is more traditional bluesy. It sounds like a completely different song (though it's not). This version is also good, but not the one I have been listening to all day.
Super delegates:
go to lenC for being the only remotely dramatic thread presence, and vginaman for potential drama for the version I rated being different than the version he submitted
Fighting Spirit goes to JM3
Sucking the air out of the room goes to Hero Value for stealing the news cycle with a late entry
that version "not available" for me, but the first recording (from ~67) is pretty awesome

Actually, I do really like Curtis Mayfield's solo work from that era. But, agreed, the Redskins song is better. Move On Up would have been the real CM alternative to my choice here - but you surely would already know it extremely/too well. [Keep On Pushing for a Keep On song ... ditto.]

, 1984. What happened to Chris Dean / X Moore - singer and leader of the band - after the mid 80s is bizarrely pretty much completely unknown.
