So, I'm in this tournament and this other player shoves and I have AA and I called and I won. I swear - craziest thing that has happened to me today.

Re: Post Crazy Poker Happenings to Share wiith Poggers here

huge tl;dr but I hope someone will

OK, I know I'll get a lot of grief for this, but hopefully I can state this without it being a whine.

First of all, I completely realize the game isn't about winning aipfs. That isn't the point of this.

I like to play donkaments on Sundays. I'm not really a good player and I'm certainly not a good tournament player but I've been playing for a long time and I'm not stupid and I have a handle on tilt. Whenever I've posted situations that call for shoving or calling shoves, the general consensus has always been that I made the right decision. Point being, I'm not an idiot.

So, on Sundays I play a mixture of mtts and sngs - buyins 3.30 - 11.00. It always seemed like I can never win aipfs so just for grins I started tracking it. It's pretty crude but accurate. I don't have suited vs. non-suited and I don't always track every hand if there are multi-way pots - just the best hand I beat or the hand that beat me. Once again, crude but I'm pretty good about at least writing down two hands.

Anyways, I've been tracking this for about a year. I don't have all my records because I just write them down and toss them later. It's more just out of curiosity. Below is the list from last Sunday. I won 11 out of 35. This is typical. I've never won more than 50% and rarely win more than 40%. It's usually 30 - 35%. Like I say, I've been doing this over a year and I would estimate I've made accurate counts about 40 times.

My question is, am I missing something? Is my sample size too small? Shouldn't this be close to 50%?

Re: Post Crazy Poker Happenings to Share wiith Poggers here

other than you knowing the sample size is too small its really easy for someone reading your post to assume that you're frustrated and biased because of it.

its not even worth stressing about it. i primarly play 30bb poker and i'm taking 2 or 3% edges all the time hundreds of times a day sometimes. variance is truly sickening.

IMO, the lesson you can take from this is that bankroll management is a great idea to practice in high variance spots like tournaments, or short stack poker

I don't really play tournaments very often and I assume you get all-in preflop way more often than in microstakes cash games, but just for reference, it does seem like the variance can be pretty high:

he had lots of backdoor draws and one overcard, I think that was a pretty good play on his part

Shoving is always weak when it is way more than they have left.
