lost 10k tonight

one guy straddles and the guy in the hj says if it folds to him he'll raise. im in the sb with KK. hj raises to 80 without looking. the whole table knows im gonna raise. i make it 320. straddle calls without looking! hj makes it 880 with 2200 behind. i shove 4500. straddle has me covered and looks at his hand and says "f*ck!!!" he goes into the tank with AQ. he mucks. hj calls me with AT and wins. of course.

specifically against a fish straddle and preflop raise checker it seems okish

seems like we have tons of better bets and tons of better bluffs

A flop bet can be correct even if it's not strictly a value bet or a bluff. Giving a free card to two players with this hand will give up a fair bit of our pot equity. And spots like this come up often enough that balance should be taken into consideration, and if we're checking back with hands as strong as this one then we don't have much credibility when we do need to bluff to win the pot.

Unless I'm missing something, you raised 3/4 pot on the river with the fourth nuts on a board where it's hard for anyone to have the nuts or second nuts and where the action gives no reason to suspect that anyone has the third nuts. What's the question?

well here is my doubt... if the fish has a hand he can call with that i beat, it's gonna be a set, two pair, or an over pair. it's really hard to see him playing flop and turn the way he did with one of those hands, especially turn.

so i guess it comes down to betting an extra 1k that he horribly misplayed his monster hand AND will make a pretty awful call now on the river... vs... that he made a bad flop call and got runner runner straight

the pro next to me said my raise was terrible. i didn't think so. idk, maybe he was just mad

I don't expect to actually get called too much there but that also makes it a good spot to bluff, which should at least give the pro an opportunity to talk himself into looking you up after the fish folds. Also, I'm not sure why you think that the fish wouldn't check the turn OOP without the initiative with a big hand.

quite possibly, I don't think calling is that bad either given it's multiway with the fish left to act though?

calling here pre is fine IMO. You could squeeze (which, player specific stuff aside, is usually the only time I 3 bang smaller pairs pre), but it's a mini raise so, yeah, I think I'd just go for post flop play.

LOL at that flop hitting everyone about as hard as possible though, that's some movie type floppin there.

It's multiway, so someone is drawing, and we shouldn't give free cards/odds I don't think

Plus the others have something and we are clearly way ahead (except here of course).
