What's the matchup layout for the next round? Randomized? Group 1 winners vs. Group 2 winners?

i will keep genres together as much as i can, and randomize the rest. it won't be like march madness. we'll reseed every round

My suggestion: all the round 1 winners go in one pot and all the round 1 2nd placers go in another pot. Each group next round gets 2 winners and 2 second placers. (Or, if you're starting 1v1s next round, do winners vs. second placers).

I don't think keeping genres together is worth the effort. Especially considering that group 14 currently consists of:

12 angry men
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
it's a wonderful life
taxi driver

And group 6 consists of a comedy and 3 pretty serious Westerns.

So far the winners are Star Wars and Empire. The second place finishers are Aliens and Inception.

So next round, you put Star Wars, Empire, and the group winners of all the other 14 groups and rand them.

Then you take Aliens, Inception, and the other 14 second place finishers and rand them.

Then it's one movie from the first group paired against a movie from the second group. (If you want to keep movies against others in its genre, it would be Star Wars vs. Aliens and Empire vs Inception.)

This way, the winners (presumably the more popular movies) get paired against 2nd place finishers.
