Strategy games are board games

But "strategy games" is a genre

Taking one doesn't take the rest off the table

Yes, this is correct. Poker is a class of card games that is played against other players for money, just like strategy board games are board games that rely mist heavily on the strategical decisions of a player. I don't think of either as a self entity, nor automobiles.

But enough of this.

Can I pick automobiles for the 25 transportation category?
Sorry, I misjudged. It sounded like you were trying to twist the rules to make ultra-generic picks.

(besides which, given the format, I think specific picks may trump general ones a lot. If the category is "somewhere to go on vacation", I think I'm going to vote for "Bali" more often than I vote for "the beach")

Actually that parenthetical brings up a question. Are the polls just going to be each of our answers against each others', or are we going to do write-ups? I'd favor the former because a) since the categories are so general it rewards creativity in finding an awesome answer rather than trying to pick the most general to "lock out" everyone else and then going more specific in the writeup, b) I really don't feel like doing 10 writeups each round, and c) some large proportion of voters aren't going to read the writeups, and some other proportion will be deterred from voting because they don't feel like reading the writeups.

In the grand scheme of "modes of transportation" automobiles are just one of many types

And there are tons of variants of those

They aren't a genre tho

Poker is not as broad as strategy games...there are 100 variants of Canasta too but that doesn't mean 2 of them should be taken

We want 11 different things in each poll, not variants of the same thing

Settlers and axis have much less in common than holdem and o8

Re: POG on Tap: Round 1 - Fun and Games

From the OP it looks like his time should be up. He had 8 hours from 7am, and it has been 8 hours and 20 minutes.
