Have any of you every played candlepin bowling? It is a 10 pin game and AFAIK it was only played in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine. When I was growing up in Halifax that was the game at every bowling alley. the margin of error for a strike was pretty small.

Only when I moved west did I discover 10 pin and 5 pin.

Yeah, it's what I grew up playing in Boston. My mom tells a probably untrue story about me learning to add watching it on tv.

I almost made a joke about only being impressed by kaze's 300 if it was candlepin.

Grats btw.

I've managed 202 and 193. And a bunch in the 160-180 range, but that's really impressive Kaze. Well done.

Saddest part of my 202 was that I had 175 or so through 6 and just shyt the bed in the last 4 frames.

I'm from New Jersey and we visited friends and family in New England. I now live in CT, and there's "Duckpin" in several towns nearby (same as candlepin). All the places seem run down.

My best 10-pin score is a 180 or so. I've been close to putting a 200 together, but to no avail. I sense it'll come eventually like my breaking par in golf did this past summer.

Duckpin is way different than candlepin. Same ball I think, but totally different pins.

I've been living a lie.

I wasn't paying attention, opened the shaker wrong and dumped a lifetime's worth of crushed red pepper on my pizza tonight. If you don't see me again ... it was that and it was worth the gamble.

Candlepin is the ****. I think I had a 120 in that and was super proud. The highest ever recorded candle pin scout is only like 240 or something.

Never done duckpin, but want to. The pins are short and fat.

I did get to try 5 pin bowling in Canada once. Pins are on strings and are with different amounts.

I grew up bowling 5 pin, and still bowl occaisionally. I used to be decent. I think I tried 10 pin once. AFAIK, 5 pin is more common in Canada.

I sometimes saw candlepin on a US tv channel and thought it was an interesting variant. I'm no neat freak, but it did bother me to see all the pins left on the lane. I don't remember it being a thing when I lived in Nfld, and I was too young to notice when I lived in NS.

As for duckpin, I have heard about it and seen it only in pictures.

I have no idea what the **** any of you are talking about.

Sports are a form of hobbies and pastime which meat-based lifeforms engage in as a part of what they call 'fun'. As yet AIs have yet to determine their purpose or devise an algorithmic analogue.

With $20 you can buy many peanuts

Strings aren’t always there, some lanes have freestanding pins with pinsetters. Lanes with strings get tangled pins all the time, and you have to wait for an attendant to go down and untangle them. Super annoying.

You'd think you'd get twice as many points for a double sclarborg as a single, but you actually get triple.

Any mattress updates?
10-18-2018 , 05:15 PM
filthy bought the mattress at retail price, they forgot to give him the robes/towels, it was too awkward for him to bring it up so he just let it go.

oh and he also tipped them

mattress trip report:

clifs: spent 10k

the store is on market street where tons of homeless people live. they keep the door locked and you have to ring the doorbell. then they let you in if you aren't homeless. so i ring the doorbell, and...... they let me in! but the woman definitely thought about. she took a second to think, then kind of reluctantly let me in. i did walk 2 miles there, and was kinda sweaty by the time i got there. dressed like a bum, very long unkempt hair, 10 day beard.

she says "what kind of bed do you want?" i don't know. she says "what kind of bed do you have?" i don't know. she says they have 4 different firmnesses, but she tells me i only need to try two. she says it's better if i don't know which one i'm trying.

she puts a thing down on the bed for me so i can lie on it. it's a little mat thing that goes just across the bottom of the bed for people's shoes. but i don't understand and i lie down just across the bottom of the bed on the dirty mat where people's shoes go. she pretty much yells at me not to, but she likes me.

so i try the two that she tells me, and i pick one that i like better. then she says something vague about "the crazy bed" that is on the other side of the showroom. it's the most expensive one they have. i try that one, and it's the best. it's like 7500. the other one is like 5500. i say i have to have the 7500 one. she asks me about my bed frame, but i don't know ****. so i say my plan is just to have the box spring and mattress, and that's it. i'll save the $350 on the bed frame. i told her i saved lyft money by walking to the store. she says "are you crazy? you're gonna spend 10k on a bed and save $350 to not have a frame?!" i realize she's right, and i get the frame. i get a couple new pillows and a new set of sheets. i have to buy some mattress protector she says is the best one and totally worth it for like 120, and then another 150 on something to cover that.

she talks me out of buying a feather bed mattress topper. i liked it. but she said it was too much, just piling **** on i didn't need, that it wouldn't make my bed any more comfortable. it really is like lying on magic scifi fantasy. it's amazing.

so i say i'm gonna pay in cash, and she is like "wtf" and she says "we don't have any change. you have to pay exact change" i pull out $9,965.75

and i did get the robes and towels "for free" and two pens, and two mugs.

they have to hand make it. it won't be ready til november 2nd or something. then they have to deliver it to LA
10-19-2018 , 05:19 AM
I would love to hear the other side of that story.
