The Pub is POG's periodic LC thread (there is also the permanent Community Thread). Here is the original vision for the Pub:

In this thread you'll find games, but not the usual POG type of big, semi-serious games. Games played in the Pub will be different — usually short, often silly... the sort of thing that's fun but doesn't really deserve its own thread. Speaking of which, eventually there's going to be an informal schedule of games, but that depends on you, the patrons: I'm just your proprietor, not your social coordinator. There won't be games unless people suggest and run them... so get to it.

There'll be more than games in here, of course. People who are fooling around playing silly games like to shoot the breeze, and of course that will be encouraged. This pub is open 24 hours a day, so come on in any time to talk about whatever's on your mind — even if it's not very much, or not really worth listening to. After all, no one really pays attention to most of what goes on in here anyway.

Oh, and be warned: It's a pub. People are going to talk about lots of things when they're drunk (figuratively and perhaps literally). Conversation could be about anything and may get ribald or raunchy, so you might get offended. If you do, I ask that you try to have a civil discussion about it first, rather than getting angry or leaving — most people will probably respond to a polite request to tone it down a bit.

What else will go one here? Most anything at all, unless it belongs somewhere else in POG or doesn't belong on 2p2 at all. Some possible examples:

• Thursday nights are currently planned to be well nights — sort of mini-wells, where someone spends a few hours answering questions about anything and everything.
• There will probably be links to plenty of webcam-type videos posted, possibly in conjunction with games and probably sometimes just to be silly.
• There will be games that aren't competitive — for example, if you have a weird or interesting hypothetical, go ahead and post it here... someone may come up with an answer that surprises, shocks, or enlightens you.
• There will probably be experimental games — nothing in here comes with a guarantee that it will work.
• There will probably be discussion of games played elsewhere; you may even be able to find a partner for such games. try asking, and see what happens.
• Pictures are likely to be posted in the thread, of pretty much anything. (See the rules below, please.)
• Anyone who has been to a bar or pub knows there's always plenty of advice to go around, so if somethings been bothering you or you need help with something, ask away and let the Pub patrons come to the rescue.

There are few rules of which everyone needs to be aware:

• Pub is part of 2p2, so there are certain things you definitely can't post; you should know what those are by now.
• Pub is part of POG, so we ask that if it belongs elsewhere on POG, it doesn't go here. That means:
  • If it's a substantial game that really deserves its own thread, give it its own thread (though it's acceptable to mention it here).
  • If it's the sort of chat that you want everyone in POG to see, or have a chance at seeing, put it in the Community thread.
  • If it's something that, while technically not against the rules, just isn't done in POG, don't do it here.
• Don't spam: don't post simply for the sake of posting. You should have something (even if not a heck of a lot) to say.
• Try not to be completely offensive. Genuine meanness isn't acceptable — your intoxication isn't an excuse, and you'll be asked to cut it out or to leave. And you can be a little bit crude, but try to confine it to things that wouldn't get you thrown out of a brick and mortar bar.
• On the other hand, this thread is not safe for work, so don't be surprised or offended when someone says or does something that would get you thrown our of your office, or of church.
• Above all: Have fun — and don't do anything that will make it hard for everyone else to do the same.

The plan as of now is that there will be a new Pub thread every month, so this should probably be considered the November 2009 Pub thread. There's no calendar yet, except that we know that Thursdays are well nights and that our first wellster has been chosen. As for the rest: It's up to you. The Pub is yours.
