Jesus said he was the son of God, buddha said please dont venerate me.
I also think christianity is evil and makes people suffer and it certainly fails at providing a good ethical system, jesus otoh is awesome he would be devastated if he saw the bull**** that his cult turned into.

Christianity doesn't try to compromise to real life. It asserts that these are thew way things are because God said so, and thats it. It doesn't care if you say it doesn't make sense, if you say its too complicated or unfair. It says "religion is God, God is religion, and here is the religion, take it or leave it."

Re: POG Philosophy and Religion thread

Also I think there is no clear line at considering urself a buddhist or not, unlike christainism. Im not sure if I qualify as a buddhist or not, I dont really care, I think an atheist with buddhist leanings describes me better but that is just a label and not really important.

Buddhism/Taoism describe ways of living as well as a religion. You can live like a busshist or a taoist and not have any explicit belief. They are less religions that christianity.

Re: POG Philosophy and Religion thread

religion doesn't have to equate with belief

and buddhism is certainly a lot more than just prescribing ways of living anyways

and it certainly has a much larger cannon than christianity

Re: POG Philosophy and Religion thread

idk. i just do.

i googled 'religions by canon size' but shockingly no one has taken the time to post that information on the net

i do think that there are a lot more books and writings that are deemed important in buhhism compared to christianity though

This doesn't seem like it should be true to me, a number of the medieval Christians (Augustine and Aquinas in particular come to mind) were rather prolific. Anyone who doesn't consider them important for Christianity are doing it wrong imo.

Re: POG Philosophy and Religion thread

I think the bible alone is bigger than any religious texts you will find in the buddhist religion.

Re: POG Philosophy and Religion thread

Matthew 16:16-17?

also in before "prove he said it" but I'm answering this question as "when in the bible did Jesus say he was the son of God" not as "prove that Jesus existed or said anything or that it wasn't rewritten.." etc etc

Quote:
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"

16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven

The bible comes out and calls jesus the son of god several times. I also think Jesus himself says it explicitly a few times. It is also implied many many time throughout the bible.
