Deontology and objectivism aren't the same thing. Far from it in fact.

A good post would explain to me what the difference is. As I understand it Utilitarianism seeks the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people. What you proposed I guess was the greatest happiness for yourself. Is that the only difference?

utilitarianism doesn't have to be followed to the letter, just because increasing overall happiness may be the most "ethical" thing to do, doesn't mean you have to do it. I think being mostly utilitarian but being allowed room for selfishness is the way to go.

Before taking philosophy classes I came up with something very similar to utilitarianism myself, so that's what I believe in.

Nietzche's and especially kant's philosophies sounded terrible to me.

I can find nothing to argue with here.

That's what I remember anyway. Im sure there's more, i'll wiki it.

Yeah, well, my biggest thing with utilitarianism is its not feasible. Its all well and good to seek the most happiness for the greatest number of people--but not person can make a decision like that with the information they have. In theory, I think utilitarianism is the correct theory, but it would never work. Therefore I think you just have to strive for the most personal happiness possible.

I can't decide if this is a level, or if you really don't know about the POG poker thread

Nietzsche's last act as a rational human being was to throw himself on a horse to stop it being whipped. This does not seem the action of a selfish cruel person.
