Lost my 142-day Guardian portal today. Five months of diligently recharging down the drain!

It hadn't even so much as been attacked once since I captured it back in early September.

And of course, it was neutralized by some L14 whose name I've never even seen before. I've got a pretty good memory too, after a while you begin to know who the couple dozen players are who play in the same vicinity as you.



at least I didn't lose it at day 149, I guess.

Bummer. They took mine out at 115. Bastards.

New level today.

I hit level 10 today, finally!

I'm just one more gold and the additional 2 million AP requirement away from level 11, although I have no idea where my next gold is going to come from. I guess Sojourner, although it seems really easy to miss a day and ruin your streak.

Glyph hacking can come fast. We had a new player make black in no time.

It's time for shards. Shards are the occasional side game in ingress that is like soccer with 40 balls in play.

It's halftime and the teams have swapped goals. The res target is now Taiwan. The enl target is on the beach in Santa Monica.

Shards are attached to portals. They travel along links, twice a day. To move one you just link the portal a shard is on to another portal and away it goes. The gotchas are both ends need to be level 7 or 8 and the other team is trying to do the same thing.

There is a shard in Oceanside out on the pier. There will be a huge battle for control at 5pm. If you are in the area, be there at 4:30 to participate. Coordinate with your team on site.

I hit level 11 today and also earned my silver Purifier badge. Slowly getting there!

Level 12 looks to be a long way away. Translator will be my fifth gold badge but I have no idea where my sixth is going to come from, I am not close on any others.

I finally met another player. I was waiting at the bus stop after work one day and this completely non-threatening middle aged petite Asian woman pulls out her phone and sure enough she is a level 16 on the opposing faction. Totally not what I expected!

The last anomaly series was very close. Any site could have made the difference in points. The 8 shards left on Santa Rosa Island were worth far more than the final margin.

This is a big deal?

Pokemon in the real world, with Niantic providing the interface to the world.

I went through Glasgow last weekend, sadly did not have time to stop and play for more than a few minutes:

The last septicycle was interesting. Our score was a record for the cell -- by a lot. Our score for the whole cycle is greater than the population of the cell. About 20 people got black badges. The next cycle started with the cell completely covered so there was no leaderboard at all for the first checkpoint.

The credit for the record goes to the res -- they decided to leave the final field up for 3 days for internal reasons. The anchors weren't that tough. We did have to cancel some field plans because our fields weren't coming down as fast as expected.

Anybody play the septicycle game? This posts celebrates our 50 cycle (1 year) win streak in the two cells of the SF Bay Area. The good stuff is in the 162 pictures.

I forgot to mention there was an anomaly in San Diego. It was a primary site. Enl won, by kind of a lot. I was there, on a bike. Good times.

I made level 13 tonight! Surprisingly, Mind Controller was my seventh gold that finally put me over the top.

Meanwhile, I keep losing Guardians at day 149. Little do they know if they would just let me get it, I would probably slowly fade away and find something else to fill my spare time. As it stands, I still have the incentive to keep checking and playing every day.

Toronto has been chosen as a primary site for the next anamoly in September, I might end up participating.

Anomalies are more fun / challenging with the current hybrid setup. I recommend going.

I finally got my Black Guardian!

Family and I went on a vacation in September to a small island nearby that is only accessible by a bridge with a hefty toll. I captured about 75 new portals over the few days while we were there. I have lost about half of them since to the few local active players, but the remaining ones out in the boonies that I've been diligently recharging for five months are all still going strong.

Just a mere 800,000 left until I hit level 14, Gold Pioneer should drop within the next week as well.
