Carl_Spackler was inspired to bring an old game show to POG. Looking at the concept, many game shows could be adapted to suit the needs of the POG community. Following Carl's lead in choosing a show hosted by Jim Perry, I would like to introduce my favourite: Definition. The show that's “fun with a pun on television”.
The game is played by two teams. On the show, each team had a civilian contestant and a celebrity guest. Online, a team could have any number of people; however, coordinating multiple teammates could be troublesome. I think a team of one would be the most workable, but two may be playable.
Each round of the game requires solving a word puzzle/riddle/pun. A clue is given, and the solution is laid out as in Wheel of Fortune. The first team to win two rounds wins the game. The teams take turns each round.
To start the turn, a team must “give” a letter to the other team. If the letter is in the solution, the other team gets to take a free guess, then takes their turn.
If the letter “given” is not in the solution, then the team gets to “take” a letter they hope is in the solution. If it is, they get one guess at the solution. Then the other team gets a turn.
Obviously, a round ends when a team successfully solves the puzzle.
Perhaps seeing it in action will be better than me explaining it:
I would like to run the game at least a couple of times, to see if there is interest, and to see if it plays as well as I think it will. At the beginning, I will use puzzles taken from games I can find on youtube, so if you want to try it, please don't watch any videos other than the one above.
If I get at least two responses in this thread, within half an hour of posting this, then I will run up to three games. Teams of one will be chosen in the order of response. I will PM to confirm participation for each game. The games will take place within this thread for now. Please comment after each game, as I would like feedback on playability and interest. Participants and observers are welcome to comment.
