Werewolf is a game about lying and catching people lying. It's an adversarial game and arguments between players are normal and expected. Passion and Intensity are fine but excessively personal attacks or insults are not. Even in a werewolf game you must respect the forum rules about civility. Failure to do so may cause you to be infracted or temp banned, and repeated problems may get you perma-banned.

Werewolf is also a community and team-based game. While there are many styles and strategies and reasons for playing and you may choose your own, you are expected to be respectful of the time and energy others put in as players and as moderators. You are expected to play to win. Intentionally sabotaging your team, or choosing strategies with the sole purpose of trolling other players in the game is not allowed.

Voting

Each day, each player is allowed (and encouraged) to vote to lynch a player. To do so, type the name of the player in bold; if you want to be sure the moderator sees it, you could be so kind as to write something like "vote: Zurvan", but it is not required.You may abbreviate the name of the player, provided it is clear to other players (and the moderator) whom you mean.

You may remove your vote by posting "unvote". You may change your vote simply by voting the new player; you do not need to unvote.

At the end of the scheduled game day, the player with the most votes is lynched, and his role revealed in the thread. If two or more players are tied for the most votes, one of the tied players is chosen randomly by the moderator.

Day and Night Times

All times give are server time, which is also Eastern Standard Time.

I will open the thread every morning by posting "It is day." You may not post in the thread until I have made the morning post. Day will usually start around 3:00 AM.

Day lasts until 9:00 PM. Posting at 9:00 PM is acceptable, and votes with that time stamp will be counted. Posting after that, even just a minute after, is not acceptable, even if I have not yet declared it night by posting "It is night." Do not post in the thread at any time, for any reason, between the end of the day and the opening of the thead the next morning.

Weekends are different: There is not "night" Saturday night -- the thread remains open from Saturday morning until Sunday evening. There is no scheduled Saturday night lynch.

Claiming - you can claim whatever you want - That's right. Claim your character, claim your powers, claim it all. There are no claiming restrictions in this game, the only exception being unless your role PM specifically forbids some type of claim. And it should go without saying, you can NEVER quote parts of your role PM, including but not limited to role flavor.

Remember, you claim at your own risk. - There might be anti-claiming restrictions in this game. Also, as the NHL player pool is massive compared to the size of this game, be aware that the strength of a character claim is largely arbitrary.

As per usual, any full role peeks that exist in this game will omit character information.

Do not edit or delete posts for any reason - this is a straight up modkill, you've been warned.

Do not post at night! - Ever. The same punishments as always will be in place for night posting. :00 good, :01 BAD.

Do not use bold purple to mimic actions! - There might be in game actions and if so, they will use bold purple text so do not use this bold color unless you have a valid action for it. You are free to use all other bold colors.

Do not discuss/quote PM's or communications with the mod IN ANY WAY! This includes but is not limited to stuff like your role, rule clarifications, possible substitutions. Just refrain from referencing PM's in any way and you'll be all set.

Dead posting/DVC- THERE IS TO BE NO DEAD POSTING IN THIS GAME - period. I have allowed dead posting in previous games, but not anymore.

Also, remember you are dead as soon as your death is announced in the thread. If you are killed during the day in some way, and there is a few minutes between your death announcement and the role reveal, that doesn't mean you can keep posting. After you're dead, you can PM or Skype me to get into dead villager chat.

All night actions will usually be due by 2:00 AM EST unless otherwise specified. You can add me on Skype for any questions or comments, but please make sure all game actions are delivered by PM to this account. Any night action that is not submitted on time is forfeited, not randed.

There is no MAJ lynch or MUST lynch in this game unless otherwise specified by the mod.

Miscellaneous rule clarifications

• If Roleblocker A roleblocks Roleblocker B who roleblocks Player C, what happens? Player B is roleblocked, Player C's action goes through.
  
• All night actions will return at least a "Processed" PM.
  
• Any player protected from ITAs will have shots against them automatically revealed as MISS

Penalty Shots and Power Plays - the ITAs/EVENTS of this game. This two-pronged mechanic will ensure that not only is the carnage high, but that it streams throughout the day in an engaging, active manner.

So please read all of this, it won't take very long.

Penalty Shots

Every single player in the game has a penalty shot %. This % is not a secret and is revealed to every player in their role PM. You are free to discuss them in the game thread.

A penalty shot is essentially a day vig, but whether or not that vig shot will be successful depends on your penalty shot %. If you are fortunate enough to be awarded a penalty shot, you will be informed via PM by the mod. From the moment you are awarded a penalty shot, you have 60 minutes to submit the vig shot by PMing the mod. Every penalty shot result will be revealed in the game thread but the shooter will not. A penalty shot target will only be revealed on a successful attempt (death). You are free to discuss in the game thread anything related to penalty shots, including that you have been awarded one, or to claim one after the fact.

How and when will penalty shots be awarded? They will be awarded in a variety of ways that relate to your participation. The more you participate, the more likely you'll win a shat. People familiar with this mechanic from World Cup MASH will have a general idea how they might be awarded, but will have no inherent advantage. No one player can win more than 2 penalty shots per day (there are some exceptions to this). And remember, they have an expiration of 60 minutes from the moment they are awarded.

Penalty Shots will be awarded at a rate consistent with the size of the player list throughout the game. They will stop being awarded when we have 8 or less players remaining.

Power Plays

Power Plays are an EVENT that requires team chemistry and will award 100% day vig shots. Hopefully this won't be too convoluted but a similar mechanic I used before worked pretty well. At any rate, this is kinda important, hopefully fun, and something that will occur quite a few times and possibly have a pretty influential impact on the game. So it's best to familiarize yourself with it now.

Power Plays will take place at random times throughout the game, as an EVENT.

I'll post

The first 5 players to in will take part in the power play. They will then be randed their power play roles; 1 point man and 4 forwards. These players cannot be targeted by actions until the conclusion of the event.

After positions are announced in the game thread, each player has 5 minutes to PM the mod their action. Actions will be made public once they are all submitted.

Each role has 2 available actions:

Point man can setup forward x where x is 1 of the 4 forwards participating. It's up to them who they want to setup. Or they can take a slapshot if they wish.

Forwards can either create space/screen or attempt goal.

YOU MAY NOT DISCUSS POWER PLAY ACTIONS IN THE GAME THREAD EVER - this is a very strict rule. Power Play success depends on unspoken and natural chemistry, not collusion. The ONLY thing that can be discussed in the game thread regarding power plays is reads pertaining to a power play after the fact (example: "nutshot setup Vagos, who was a wolf, so nutshot might be a wolf too). That sort of post is ok. ANY SORT OF pre-planned strategy for power plays in the game thread will be met with swift punishment and possibly a game misconduct (elimination from the game). This is your warning.

In chats that exist outside the game thread, any and all pre planned strategies for power plays are allowed.

You will need to be in sync as a unit. Who will the point man setup? As a forward, will you create space/screen or attempt a goal? Everything culminates in how successful the PP opportunity will be.

If the point man decides to setup forward x, then

TOTAL ODDS OF SUCCESS:
100%: Point man's setup target attempts a goal, all 3 other forwards create space/screen
60%: Point man's setup target attempts a goal, 2/3 other forwards create space/screen
20%: Point man's setup target attempts a goal, 1/3 other forwards create space/screen
5%: Anyone who attempts a goal that wasn't setup by the point man will have a 5% chance of scoring - likewise, if all 4 forwards attempt a goal, they'll all be 5% each, regardless of who was setup
0%: All 4 forwards create space/screen

If the point man decides to take a slapshot, he will have a 10% base chance to score a goal, with 10% added for each forward who chooses to create space/screen.

Again, all actions will be made public, and then a rand will take place.

Successful Power Play - so what happens when a power play is successful? Simple - the goal scorer will be awarded a DAY VIG.

Failure of teamwork will reward the bad guys though. All failed power play attempts will result in a random wolf being awarded a penalty shot on the shorthand (these compensation penalty shots won't count towards the limit of 2, and can be proxied).

One last thing - many players will have PP powers based on their real life skills on the PP. For the most part, these specific powers are redacted from role PMs in order to ensure the NO POWER PLAY STRATEGY rule is not broken. However in most cases, PM flavor will strongly suggest if you have one of these powers. This info is to help you decide what to do on the PP with your character, but again, this information is not to be used to formulate PP strategy in the game thread - EVER. Since character claiming is allowed, inferences about PP skills can be made about a claimed character, but are not to be discussed.

These powers will range from minor to quite formidable, but PP skills won't be uncommon and it's very likely most PPs will be affected in various unseen ways.
