1B - Prog is fun and all, but I'm a somewhat rare breed of a musician - being impressed by the musical ability doesn't do that much for me when it comes to enjoying the music. It's impressive, fun to listen to, but it can never beat music that makes me feel something. Here the latter of the songs succeeds in that. I can't even quite understand what the lyrics are saying, but they still connect with me on some level. 2A - Christmas music? Seriously? Before listening to the second one, I'm pretty sure it's going to win this one. Okay, this doesn't do much for me, but it's still not ****ing Christmas music. Actually you know what, I don't like this at all. At least I can pretend the Nat King song is just some regular standard. 3A - So here's a match-up with 2 really well known songs. Could go either way. Cool, different version of Crazy, but I guess I'll still go with Queen. As much as I think Crazy is a great song, I've heard it a lot, and I hadn't listened to that Queen tune in a while. 4A - Could change with more listens, didn't get too big of an opinion on either song on first listen. Decent enough, but nothing that really grabbed my attention.
2B holy ****, christmas music? For some people this might be perfect: fitting the season, all romantic and ****, but to me it's just one more annoying christmas song that makes me want to blast some death core as countermeasure. The other song isn't that interesting either, but it's pretty chill and most important it's no christmas song.
3B imo a pretty weak matchup, the Queen song isn't bad but it also isn't super awesome either and even though I like Crazy, this version seems to be missing something. Or maybe I'm just used to the radio version. My vote here is basically at rand level.
1B - I was planning on putting A, as it's a classic (mostly from I Love You, Man), but I just really enjoyed B, and have never heard of them.
I think that more original/less famous choices are better for this, which also applies for other cats like 5. I want to hear some interesting new music, as I think most others also do.
2B - Just no to A. And I don't really get all the hate for B. It's pretty chilled, kind of like a poor man's Sublime.
3A - A is great, and have actually maybe only heard it once before. Pretty cool version of Crazy though, but ldo famous.
4B - This was kind of close. I liked both. Both pleasant, but probably just came down to liking the 2nd guy's voice more.
5A - A is just really great. Disco 2000 is a classic, but again was obv famous.
4A they are both nice songs, same level for me, but imo B got hurt by the live performance. I usually like good live performances but in this the crowd singing/having to sing along distracted me a bit.
5B again, same level of niceness. Nothing really bad, nothing spectacular. B just wins by a little margin I guess.
6A wow, this was the first one I genuinely liked. Like bopping my head dancing around liked. B ldo awesome too.
7B pretty fun song. Also just couldn't stand A's voice. It's not a bad song, but the voice...
8A wheheee that's a crazy fun song, I like it! B first went from "omg I have to listen to this -.-" then "oh it's getting a little more interesting" to "help, when is it over?"
5A - The Pulp tune is a classic, and that hurts it here. In this type of game, I'm going to prefer finding something new that I like. Sort of similar genre, as well. 6B - And just as I've said that, I'm faced with this match-up. Obviously not a new acquaintance for me, this song, but it's too good. Nothing wrong with the other one either, but not enough to beat this howler. 7A - Neither really my style, but the first one was still kinda decent. 8B - The first one was interesting, slowly growing on me. But the second one really conveys some strong emotions. And that's what I want.
That's two people calling "Disco 2000" a classic, whereas, unless I'm mistaken, Pulp is pretty much completely unknown in the US except for "Common People".
9 A
10 A
11 A
12 B (Kind of reminds me of OK GO for some reason)
13 B (I tried to like A, I really did. It just never got there)
14 B (I gotta get my **** together LOL)
15 B
16 B (You see a mousetrap, I see free cheese and a ****in challenge)
Again I was exposed to some stuff I never would have had the chance to listen to. Great concept for a game.
9 B two different styles of song so kinda hard to choose. B has the Big Name attached but I just liked it better.
10 B both songs didn't really do much for me, so it basically was a choice of which song I disliked the least. B won here because I usually like these kind of melancholic sounding songs more, therefore it wasn't as bad as A. B guy has a great voice though. On second listen: I think I actually kinda like B. Need a third listen... and a fourth...
11 A A is pretty cool, I liked the noisy beginning. I wasn't really sure how I should feel about the singing, but it grew on me, it's fitting the song. B is a fun little song, but the vocals felt kinda like chewing gum. I really like the drums and piano backing though.
12 B the Mad Max song works well as a soundtrack. Not so much as a standalone song. B is some awesome rock, with mindblowingly great vocals (first thought "damn, ****ing genius!!!") so snap vote here.
13 A a white rapper singing about how to save money? Lol, awesome! Event though the song sounds like half of all rap songs ever made, the lyrical idea is fun. Also the Beatles song didn't really do it for me (the chaotic orchestra parts were cool though; I like stuff like this).
14 B both not that great. B stuck a little longer with me and has a groovy riff so B it is.
15 B wow, what a great matchup! Both of these songs are awesome. I just liked B a little better, it has this driving rhythm that gets you pumped for whatever you wanna do today.
16 B this is different. I'm usually not into rap, mainly because it always sounds the same (see 13A), so it was kinda surprising how much I liked this. I'll definitely look into this guy's stuff. With A I expected some rocky climax at some point (you know, Evanescence-style), so it was kinda disappointing.
